Ship Fail Video | How Not To Dock A Ship

Posted: 31 Jan 2010 06:01 AM PST

For some strange reason this video gives me the creeps. I guess I’m just not used to having 1000 tons of steel coming towards me at speed. Then again, some of the men on the dock look like they’re crapping themselves as well, and they’re surely used to it.

This video shows a huge ship coming in to dock at a port. It starts off way out to sea, before getting closer quite rapidly. And then it doesn’t stop, instead smashing into the other ship and the dockyard.

However, this may not be the fail it at first appears to be because the ship could be coming into a ship scrapyard where these hulking metal beasts come to die and be broken up for scrap.

In which case, rather than being a fail it’s a rather good maneuvering of a giant vehicle. Whatever the truth, I’m just glad I wasn’t standing on the dockside at the time as I’d have had to change my underwear pretty quickly.

Miss America 2010 Crowned Video | Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron Represents U.S.A.

Posted: 31 Jan 2010 12:57 AM PST

Miss Virginia 2010, Caressa Cameron, has been named Miss America. This video shows her being named and crowned as, apparently, the most beautiful woman in the whole of the United States. Yeah, whatever.

If I’m honest, I don’t get the fascination with beauty pageants. What is the point of naming someone Miss America or Miss World? Does that crown really make them the most beautiful woman in the world? And who are we to say what’s beautiful anyway?

But maybe I’m alone, or at least in the minority on this. As far from dying out in the 1970s as I’d thought, there seems to be a new fascination for beauty pageants.

Caressa Cameron is indeed a beautiful looking woman and will do the U.S. proud during her tenure as Miss America. But I can’t say I really give a crap.

Hitler’s Reaction To The Apple iPad Video | The Nazis Are Disappointed With Steve Jobs

Posted: 30 Jan 2010 06:31 PM PST

For anyone interested in technology, this week has been dominated by the unveiling of the Apple iPad. It was rumored for months, and Steve Jobs finally announced and revealed the tablet PC on Wednesday.

However, a great many tech journalists and industry watchers are disappointed by the iPad – with its lack of multitasking, Flash, and a camera, and it being tied into AT&T.

Hell, even Hitler isn’t happy.

This is a brilliantly done spoof of how Adolf Hitler would have reacted to the iPad. The subtitles are carefully worded as to appear real, though they are obviously not.

This isn’t the first time this clip has been adapted. In fact, whenever something big happens in the news, Hitler has his say. Including when Blu-ray and HD DVD were battling to succeed DVD.

Funny Misheard Fall Out Boy Lyrics Video | Alternative Version of “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race”

Posted: 30 Jan 2010 03:24 PM PST

I’ve got to admit, I’ve got no idea of the words that come out of Fall Out Boy lead singer, Patrick Stump’s mouth. I’ve heard “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” countless times on radio, but I still don’t know what the lyrics are.

Thankfully there are videos like this to set me straight.

Now, I’m not entirely sure whether these are the lyrics either. They don’t seem to make a lot of sense, but as I follow along they’re hard to dispute!

From now on I’ll definitely imagine Patrick Stump as an evil dictator stroking his precious Persian!

Shaun White Crash Video | Snowboarder Smashes Face During Winter X Games 2010

Posted: 30 Jan 2010 02:27 PM PST

Extreme sports aren’t for me. Well I say that but I haven’t actually ever tried any of them. Which is, I guess, why they aren’t for me – I’m too scared of puncturing a lung or being buried in an avalanche to even give them a go.

However, some people thrive on danger, especially those who have taken the art of extreme sports to a whole new level. Meet Shaun White, probably the best-known snowboarder. He even has his own video game.

But not even Shaun White is perfect, as this video ably demonstrates.

During a practice run, he attempts a difficult stunt only to smash his face into the ice half-pipe. His helmet flies off, his head snaps back, and he slides down the ramp.

Luckily, and quite amazingly, White didn’t suffer any injury from the crash, and actually went on to take gold medal. But he could have been paralyzed or even killed. I think I’ll stick to being a boring bastard.

The Internet In 1969 Video | Vintage Clip Predicts Online Shopping

Posted: 29 Jan 2010 08:06 PM PST

Consoles like “the household monitor screen” and an “electronic correspondence machine” don’t exist today, but this vintage clip from 1969 is pretty close to predicting the internet.

Also included is an unintentional bit of sexism; which I find very funny.

This clip is an excerpt from an actual documentary in 1969 about the future of middle class Americans. Surprisingly, it predicts things like online shopping and e-mail.

Another funny thing about this video is the subliminal sexism when it concerns the husband paying the bills for the wife. His face at the 0:46 mark is priceless.

Clever Dolphins Hunting Video | Fish Jump Right Into Their Mouths!

Posted: 29 Jan 2010 03:09 PM PST

We dogged on dolphins in a recent post, but there's no denying that these marine mammals are clever critters. Here we see the bottlenose dolphins’ unique brand of hunting.

It’s a little hard for those flippers to hold spears or other hunting implements, so these dolphins have to use their heads. We see one dolphin stir up mud circles, seemingly trapping his favorite fishy treats.

These “trapped” snacks panic, jumping out of the water in fear … right into the mouths of the dolphin’s waiting friends. You don’t get fish much fresher than that!

I think I need to make some dolphin friends. This looks a lot more successful than using bait and hooks!
