Killer Whales Hunting Video | Shamu Trying To Catch Seals In Shallow Water – & Failing

Posted: 28 Feb 2010 09:52 AM PST

Killer whales, or orcas, are back in the news again after one of the Shamu at SeaWorld dragged its trainer Dawn Brancheau under the water to an early death.

This video shows two killer whales hunting seals right on the coast. They’ll even venture into very shallow water if there’s a chance of catching prey. And it shows just how huge and scary orcas are.

Is the orca blamed with Brancheau’s death, known as Tilikum, really to blame or is it just a natural urge? Surely this tragic incident should lead to SeaWorld closing down its Shamu shows, but no, they’re already back up and running just days later.

Why are killer whales turned into fun and frivolous creatures for human entertainment? What kind of people go and see the Shamu show? Is it really any more tolerable than watching dancing bears or circus animals?

Japan Tsunami Video | Magnitude 6.9 Earthquake Leads To Massive Tsunami Threat

Posted: 28 Feb 2010 04:49 AM PST

Another day, another earthquake. And another tsunami warning as fears build that offshore quakes will lead to huge waves crashing into the coastlines of Pacific nations.

Yesterday saw residents of coastal cities anxiously watching and waiting to see if a tsunami would hit the shore. Luckily, the threat now seems to have passed, with the U.S. and Japan both downgrading their tsunami warnings.

The Chilean earthquake wasn’t the only to have hit the planet in the last couple of days, with a quake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale hitting off the coast of Japan as well.

As with Hawaii and the other countries fearful of a tsunami from the Chile earthquake, so Japan was worried about the effects of a tsunami hitting along its eastern seaboard.

The threat now seems to be over, or at least not as big as first thought. And thank God for that, as 200,000 people were killed by the tsunami in the Indian ocean in 2004.

World’s Oldest and Longest Running Mayor Video | Amazing 88-Year-Old Hazel McCallion of Canada

Posted: 27 Feb 2010 06:15 PM PST

Hazel McCallion is one amazing lady. When most 88-year-olds are quietly knitting or playing lawn bowls, she’s running Canada’s sixth largest city, Mississauga.

Hazel has been mayor of the Canadian city for the last 31 years. She’s won 11 elections, and outlasted eight Canadian presidents. But don’t even suggest that she’s over the hill.

Hazel’s track record speaks for itself. Her city is one of the few in the world to be debt free. In fact, it has a $700 million reserve. Her approval rating is a whopping 92%. But what’s not to love?

When she’s not looking after her people, Hazel loves to play ice hockey and ten-pin bowling.

What an inspirational lady!

Spoof Windows TV Advert Video | Microsoft Parody – Windows 7 Was Everybody’s Idea

Posted: 27 Feb 2010 10:41 AM PST

Microsoft has scored a definite victory with its latest operating system, Windows 7. It’s everything Vista was not, and much more up-to-date and user-friendly than the now-aging Windows XP.

But that doesn’t mean it cannot be parodied, especially with the adverts for Windows 7 being, well, a little crap.

The adverts follow ordinary people (allegedly) who had an idea of what they wanted to see in a computer and then show how that feature became part of the Windows 7 OS.

This spoof version does exactly the same thing, except the features people waned to see on Windows 7 range from the sublime to the ridiculous. The journey is funny to watch and the final version of the Windows 7-based PC is brilliant. I want one!

Chile Earthquake Video | Magnitude 8.8 Quake Near Concepcion Could Mean Tsunami

Posted: 27 Feb 2010 05:38 AM PST

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a huge earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter Scale hit Chile near the port town of Concepcion. The epicenter also wasn’t far away from the capital of Santiago.

At least 64 people are known to have died, and there are now fears of aftershocks to come and the possibility of one of these causing a tsunami.

Although this is a powerful earthquake and one which has killed several dozen people, this is nowhere near as bad as the Haiti earthquake from a few weeks ago.

Not only was the earthquake spread out over a longer fault-line, meaning less power being dissipated in one spot, but the buildings and infrastructure are more solid in Chile.

Chile is also much more able to cope with the aftermath of such a quake.

Funny Dogs Go Crazy For Law & Order (Video) | Theme Song With Hidden Canine Powers

Posted: 26 Feb 2010 06:08 PM PST

Apparently the Law and Order theme song has a certain frequency in it that makes most dogs go crazy.

Here’s a compilation of a dozen or so pets doing just that.

Law and Order has been on the air for years and, because I’m not a pet owner, I never noticed this unique trait about the show. It really makes me wonder what other shows unintentionally have this effect on dogs.

It seems like it doesn’t even matter if the theme song is being played from the TV or the computer- the reaction is the same. Surely some of these dogs resent the show as much as I do. Perhaps the barking is a complaint?

A Nightmare on Elm Street Trailer Video | Classic Horror Movie Gets a Remake

Posted: 26 Feb 2010 06:07 PM PST

The remake of the classic 80s horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street is almost upon us. This trailer gives us a sneak peek at what’s in store.

I must admit, I’m really easily scared but this gave me the chills. And it’s not just the thought of Michael Bay producing another film that frightens me. Then again, hardened horror fans may not be as impressed.

Hollywood may not be very original these days, but at least this one seems to be a decent remake. By focusing on those creepy dream sequences, always the greatest hook of the series, this could provide a nice contrast to the typical slasher flicks we see.

You can see A Nightmare on Elm Street when it hits cinemas on April 30 … if you dare.

Tonight Show With Jay Leno Video Advert | Music Changed To Better Suit The Mood

Posted: 26 Feb 2010 11:31 AM PST

This year began with an almighty mess at NBC as the U.S. network decided to backtrack on switching Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien around in the schedules after just eight months of the new order being put in place.

The upshot is that O’Brien has left the network completely, while Leno is returning to The Tonight Show from Monday (March 1).

This video shows the NBC promo for Leno’s return to the 11.35pm slot. Except for one thing. Instead of Get Back by The Beatles playing over the top, Creep by Radiohead provides the soundtrack. And it fits much better.

I don’t really care who hosts The Tonight Show, but Leno has clearly behaved badly through the whole thing. And this promo is no exception. Could he have pulled a more smug face than that? The man clearly has no scruples.

Chuck Liddell Naked Workout Video | UFC Badass & Girlfriend Heidi Northcott Keep Fit

Posted: 26 Feb 2010 07:26 AM PST

I must admit to not having seen much of Chuck Liddell up to now, or knowing anything much about him. What can I say? I’m not a big UFC fan, that’s all.

However, I’ve now seen more than enough of Chuck Liddell and his girlfriend Heidi Northcott, as a video of them partaking in a naked workout has found its way on to the Internet. How? Why? By whom?

This isn’t a paparazzi job. Instead, it appears Liddell and Northcott agreed to the naked workout shoot for a new viral marketing campaign by Reebok, which already sponsors Liddell in a professional capacity.

Which would explain why the rudey bits are all blurred out, and in a very precise and professional way too. Although somewhere there must be an unedited version with all the good stuff intact. Expect it to appear on the Web within a few months.

Watch Awesome Kim Yuna Skate to James Bond Medley Video | Young & Talented

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 06:43 PM PST

If there is one winter Olympics event I enjoy watching above all others, it is ice skating. (Snowboarding comes a close second.) While this isn’t an Olympic performance, young Kim Yuna is still definitely worth watching.

One of the things that really caught me about this performance is that Kim Yuna truly seems to be enjoying what she is doing out there on the ice.

With smiles and actual facial expressions as part of her routine, it makes it about more than just complicated spins and jumps set to music.

I have to mention her outfit as well, which fits the music well and makes her look gorgeous.

Watch Interview With ‘The Survivors Club’ Author Ben Sherman Video

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 06:20 PM PST

Glenn Beck interviews Ben Sherman, the author of The Survivors Club – a book that teaches people how to survive by relating stories of true survivors.

Books and guides on how to survive everything from natural disasters to zombie apocalypses are easy to find on the market, but Sherman takes on survival from a different point of view.

Instead of simply telling people how to survive this or that, Sherman tells stories of actual survival and focuses on the qualities of survivors.

Some reviews tick on Sherman spending a lot of time on prayer and religion being a survival tactic for a long time, but hey, if it works…

Guy Takes Dump In Shopping Mall Video | When You Need To Go, A Plant Pot Will Do

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 01:41 PM PST

I’m sure we’ve all of us had at least one experience of being outside, miles away from home, and needing to take a dump rather desperately. It’s no one’s fault, it’s just a by-product (quite literally) of our body dealing with waste products.

However, the vast majority of us, faced with that situation, do all we can to find a toilet to use before we crap our pants. But not his guy. He spots a plant pot and takes the opportunity. Hell, if soil is good enough for cats then it’s good enough for him.

This video has given some people the chance to air their inherently racist views. The mall is in America and it doesn’t appear that the guy has been in the country for long. Although even that may be an assumption too far.

However, wherever he has come from, this isn’t behavior you can ascribe to everyone from a certain country or race. The fact is that he’s a dirty git who is happy to crap in the middle of a busy shopping mall. So you can only hate on him, and him alone.
