Russian Snow Diving Video | Deep Snow + Tower Blocks + Reckless Teenagers = Fun Posted: 10 Feb 2010 07:56 AM PST I adore snow, at least in the first day or two after it has fallen. After that it gets all icy and muddy and a bit crap basically. But being in the U.K. I never get to experience snow of this magnitude. This is Russia, where very deep snow piled high next to a tall building means an opportunity to have fun, albeit fun of the dangerous variety.
The video a couple of youngsters (an educated guess, I admit) preparing to leap off the roof of their tower block into the soft and safe snow drift that has built up down below. Not something I’d do but it’s fun to watch. Is it sensible to jump off a roof into snow? Probably not. Does it warrant getting arrested by the police on some trumped up charges? Definitely not. If they were throwing stuff off the building then maybe but they’re only likely to injure themselves. |
Google Buzz In Gmail Demo Video | New Way Of Social Networking Built In To Email Posted: 10 Feb 2010 01:53 AM PST Google’s attempts at social networking haven’t gone smoothly up to now. Orkut and Jaiku have both failed to really take off in a mainstream way. So it’s trying again, this time with Google Buzz, which will be integrated into Gmail.
Email has somewhat fallen out of fashion these days. Certainly compared to what it once was. Simply because there are now so many other ways to commuincate with people on the Internet. Twitter, Facebook, and Skype are just three such examples. So what better way to launch a social networking project than to integrate it into everyone’s email account. It’s then kind of like email is evolving and becoming something new and different to what it has been. Google Wave is the ultimate goal but Google Buzz is a good start. |
United States of Tara Season Two Preview Video | What’s in Store for Tara in 2010? Posted: 09 Feb 2010 10:39 PM PST The United States of Tara was one of the most exciting series of 2009 with its original writing and quirky cast. A program dealing with dissociative identity disorder was always going to be brave, but Showtime managed to inject the right measures of humor and heart into this breakout hit. This trailer shows us what's in store in the second season for Tara, played by award-winning Aussie Toni Collette, her “alters,” and her remarkably patient family. This preview doesn’t give away a lot (aside from some public backyard sex), but it does have me anticipating the return of this bold dramedy. |
The Bannen Way: New Action Web Series | Gangsters, Guns, & Gambling Posted: 09 Feb 2010 08:40 PM PST Crackle’s new web series ‘The Bannen Way’ has all the ingredients for an online action hit. Gansters, guns, and gambling? Check. Cocky main character in a sweet sports car? Bring it on. (Mark Gantt) stars as Neal Bannen in this thrilling, action-packed, sex-crazed web series. Filled with an undeserved sense of self accomplishment, smoothe talking Bannen has just gambled away the funds he needed to pay off his final debt. With death so close, Bannen decides to accept one more job, retrieving a mysterious black box. Like any good action show, the main character hires a sexy con-woman and a cliched-virgin-tech-boy to help him. Aside from the obvious stereotypes I actually really love this one. The direction is superb and Bannen is rockin some pretty sweet shades in a fancy-ass car. TrailerHere’s the trailer for the series. If you love action flicks, this might just be your cup of tea. |
Watch Awesome Washington DC Blizzard of 2010 Time Lapse Video | 24 Inches in 24 Hours Posted: 09 Feb 2010 03:39 PM PST We’ve already seen the teddy bear die in the snowpocalypse, but this is a great time lapse video that shows some before and after shots at the end as well. As I’m sitting here in my tank top and shorts, feeling cranky about yet another hot summer day, I suddenly don’t feel so bad after watching this video. I miss snow sometimes, but man, I don’t miss that much snow. They really got hit on the coast! I really love the before and after shots at the end. They give you a reminder of just how impressive the snowfall truly is. |
Watch Real Life Sleeping Beauty News Video | Girl Sleeps for Two Weeks Posted: 09 Feb 2010 03:19 PM PST 15 year old Louisa ball suffers from a rare disorder that takes ‘teenagers need a lot of sleep’ to the extreme. Actually called Kleine-Levin Syndrome, ’sleeping beauty syndrome’ has Louisa sleeping for up to two weeks at a time. While it may not be as dramatic as waking up years later like portrayed in movies or television, this affliction is very real. Without being able to stop it or even time it, Louisa is stuck being a slave to her sleep schedule, missing out on the important things in life. True, the chances are that she’ll grow out of it, but the damage to aspects of her life like work and school will have already been done. |
Time Lapse Video of Snow in Washington D.C. | Teddy Dies in Snowpocalypse Posted: 09 Feb 2010 02:44 PM PST Thick snow has blanketed much of the United States and Europe recently. In this time-lapse video, filmed in Washington D.C., we see the true extent of the storm known as The Snowpocalypse. I can’t help feeling a little annoyed at the filmmaker though. Capture this crazy snow by all means, but couldn’t we have saved the teddy bear first? He didn’t need to die! |
