eBay watch: 1970s Citroen DS car Posted: 09 Feb 2011 01:18 PM PST I was just reviewing an old horror movie on another of our sites and finding myself appreciating the Citroen DS that was used in one scene. So I opened up eBay, hunt around and found this 1970s Citroen DS available for auction. |
Faux Fur Frock Coat from Miss Selfridge Posted: 09 Feb 2011 10:31 AM PST Full faux fur coats have been seen everywhere across the high street this Winter, and while they're a great retro look, they can be too overwhelming for some. If you want to tap into that trashy glamour without going all out, this Faux Fur Frock Coat from Miss Selfridge could be ideal. Using the fur as a generous trim at the collar and cuffs, the coat combines classic tailoring with decadent textures. The full skirt of the coat adds symmetry to the large collar, while slim sleeves keep the silhouette feminine. The end product is versatile enough to pair with a variety of retro looks, from Factory-girl glamour to seventies chic. It's available now from Miss Selfridge for £80. |
Poppy Print Circle Skirt from Dorothy Perkins Posted: 09 Feb 2011 09:57 AM PST Much of the fifties looks available from reproduction brands and the high street of late have erred on the side of structural, vampish looks. If rockabilly style isn't for you, a more traditionally fifties look can be achieved with items like this Poppy Print Skirt from Dorothy Perkins. The circle skirt style is given a softer edge with the use of a flowing cotton fabric, eschewing the heavily structured alternatives. The poppy print utilises the floral trend without falling for cliché, and adds impact with its colour palette too. Finished with a long hemline, this skirt is ideal for a more conservative and classic fifties inspired wardrobe. It's available now from Dorothy Perkins for £30. |

Skylon print by Paul Catherall Posted: 09 Feb 2011 05:44 AM PST The Skylon tower was built as part of the Festival of Britain but lasted only a year before being taken down It now just survives on London's Southbank as the name of the Royal Festival Hall resturant. Catherall's linocut makes it look like the futuristic creation it must have appeared like back then - he says he was aiming to capture the adventure and spirit of optimism of the festival. The colours used are perfect to reflect the period of Skylon and help create a striking piece of artwork. The print is limited to 60 and costs £195. Buy it from The Southbank Centre |

Cinedelica's man on the ground, The Scenester, hopped along to an early screening and checked out the new version, with a touch of 'compare and contrast' with the Boulting Brothers classic from the 1940s, which is actually coming back out itself on Blu-ray very soon. Read his review now on Cinedelica, with a few tasty shots of the movie thrown in for good measure. |
