Miniature Carlton Sottsass shelves available from the V&A Posted: 06 Sep 2011 05:34 AM PDT
The exhibition doesn't open until 24 September but the V&A's product to accompany their Postmodernism show is already beginning to creep into their shop. Definitely worth a look are these miniature Carlton shelves, based on the design by Ettore Sottsass. Designed in 1981 by Sottsass for Memphis, the riot of colour, shapes and material have become forever associated with the period, and the movement. Hard to imagine in many places other than a gallery, they are bound to form a focal point in any room. Though they are described as miniature, it's hard to tell from the V&A's website just how big they are. Judging by the price, and the fact they are only deliverable in the UK, hopefully they're not too mini. Available to pre-order now, the shelves cost £750. Order it online |
eBay watch: 1960s Jaguar Mk II 240 car Posted: 06 Sep 2011 04:23 AM PDT The car of choice for TV villains in the '60s and '70s, this Jaguar Mk II 240 is both a stylish and a speedy number, as well as being up for sale on eBay right now. This particular example dates back to 1968, with 42,000 miles showing on the clock from the two previous owners. The seller can't confirm if that's genuine, but judging by the low number of owners and the condition, it might well be. It packs a 2,400cc engine, said to be capable of over 100mph and is in a 'Cotswold Beige' colour, matched up with the original black vinyl interior and original dash and dials. As for driving, according to the seller, the car 'starts and drives exactly as it should and is a pleasure to drive'. Ready to go in short. Although there might be some work to be done on the paint in time.
Want it? Not the cheapest car at around £8,995, but a head-turner, that's for sure. Lots more detail and images on the listing.
