Giant Sinkhole In Guatemala (Video) | Swallowed Up An Entire Building

Posted: 01 Jun 2010 11:47 AM PDT

This sinkhole in Guatemala looks like a scene out of a disaster movie. Not only is it circular, but it managed to swallow up a building with at least one man inside of it within seconds.

From the satellite view, it looks very similar to a 200ft deep crater. Conspiracy nuts eat your heart out!

Tropical Storm Agatha has killed over 100 people in Central America and left thousands of homes damaged. This, obviously, is probably the worst of the damage. I can’t imagine how the government is going to fix this over there.

If you’re thinking of donating to the efforts, please consult CharityNavigator.org first as there are numerous scam companies popping up.

Runescape Classic Video | Play Runescape MMORPG How It Used To Be – Geek Heaven

Posted: 01 Jun 2010 07:17 AM PDT

Geeks are going to love this. They now have a chance to play Runescape Classic, a version of the hugely popular MMORPG as it used to be, back in 2004 to be exact.

And, well, it’s very different. And a bit crap if I’m honest.

You have to be a current Runescape player to get access to Runescape Classic, which seems a strange idea to me as why would you choose a six-year-old version of the game when you can play the current version?

Surely it would be better to open up Runescape to a wider audience, making it playable for free by people who have neither the money or the inclination to play the current version of Runescape.

I can’t quite get over the crappy graphics and simplistic gameplay. I think I’ll stick to playing more modern games on my PS3 and Xbox 360.

Proper High-Five Etiquette (Video) | How To Handle Every Type Of Greeting

Posted: 31 May 2010 09:55 PM PDT

High-fives can be very awkward or very smooth depending on how well your ability to assess the greeting is. If you’re like me, then you’ve had plenty of ball-and-sockets, foul tips, and killers.

Oh, you don’t know what those are? Then you’ll need to watch this guide on proper high-five etiquette before it’s too late.

I don’t know if it’s a generation gap or if the high-five is simply just underground at the moment, but I don’t seem to use it as often as I did in the 90’s. Every time one does appear out of the blue, I always seem to make a mess out of it.

While this video portrays adults re-enacting the situations, I really could have used something like this when I was 10 years old and high-fiving every day of my life. Come to think of it, this clip lacks the famous “up high, down low, too slow” maneuver that I used to fall for at that age.

Watch US Scientists Create Synthetic Living Cell Interview Video | Artificial Life Now Exists

Dr. Craig Venter, part of the US scientific team that has created the first ever synthetic cell, answers questions about artificial life, current technology and the implication of the creation of this cell.

Here comes the zombie apocalypse!

Just kidding. Maybe.

While creating artificial life does make me feel a bit uneasy, I do recognize this to be an amazing time we are living in. Artificial life!

Just the complexity of one bacterial cell is amazing in and of itself. To reproduce it is an incredible feat. But I don’t need to tell you that.

What we’re all wondering is what this means for the future…

Watch Quebec Canada Wildfires Spread Smoke for Miles Home Video

Posted: 31 May 2010 07:32 PM PDT

The smoke from wildfires in Quebec has caused confusion many miles away as the wind has spread the smoke well into the US.

I haven’t been able to find any news stories that have reported damages or deaths because of this fire, so I truly hope that is the case and that it stays that way.

This video – and related videos – give me the creeps. It reminds me of the devastating and deadly fires we had here in Victoria not too long ago.

I still have the pictures of the thick, dark smoke that rolled across the sky as the fires got within kilometres of where we lived.

I hope everyone keeps safe.

Chinese Crowd Takes on Motorcycle Thief Video | Street Justice at Its Finest

Posted: 31 May 2010 06:35 PM PDT

This motorcycle thief gets him comeuppance, and then some, in this video from China.

When he steals the handbag of a passing pedestrian, local villagers give chase. Pretty soon the handful of concerned citizens has become an angry mob hell-bent on revenge.

In the scheme of things their reaction might be a little over-the-top. I might have stopped short of breaking furniture over the robber’s head. But there’s something beautiful about this kind of justice.

Sure you could do things the “right” way and wait for the cops to come, but we all know that the purse pincher and the handbag would be long gone before they arrived. This way the woman gets her bag, and the thief learns a real lesson!

Incredibly Fast Fighter Video | I Doubt You’d Even See An Attack By This Guy Coming

Posted: 31 May 2010 01:05 PM PDT

This guy has either practiced kicking ass every day of his life, or is drugged up to the eyeballs on caffeine and crack. Either way, I wouldn’t like to meet him on a dark night because I’m guessing I’d be on the floor before I even caught sight of him.

The best fighting video games always pitch a big, heavy, slow brute against a small, light, agile athlete. And the fast-moving fighter usually comes out on top by getting in and out before the big man can react.

This guy seems to have taken inspiration from that fact and put it to use in real life. He has therefore trained to punch and kick super fast, and all while also blocking any shots that may come his way.

I’d like to see this guy actually in a fight, rather than merely training. I’m guessing he’d kick some serious ass, but he might get caught with one good punch to the face and go down like a sack of spuds.
