Cool Praying Mantis Video | Large Insect Tries To Catch Mouse Pointer On Apple Mac Screen Posted: 16 Feb 2010 10:58 AM PST I’m really not a big fan of insects and creepy-crawlies. They freak me out, especially the larger ones. Which is why I’m glad I live in the U.K. where we don’t really have any life-threatening species. One of the scariest-looking has to be the Praying Mantis, an insect that looks like a stick always ready to pounce on its prey. And while it wouldn’t attack a human, I’d still rather keep my distance, thank you very much.
This guy doesn’t keep his distance. In fact, he keeps one as a pet and lets it saunter around on top of his desk and even on his computer. I suppose even insects need regular exercise. This video shows the Praying Mantis trying to catch the mouse pointer on this guy’s Apple Mac screen. It’s a persistent little thing, keeping going when so many other animals would have given up and gone home. Points for perseverance, then, but none for intelligence. |
Whoopi Goldberg On Wendy Williams Show Video | Talk Show Host Brought To Tears Posted: 16 Feb 2010 04:49 AM PST Wendy Williams was once the queen of take radio, and she used that position to spread salacious gossip about celebrities and to dish the dirt on well-known faces. She’s now made the move to TV with The Wendy Williams Show, and recently welcomed Whoopi Goldberg on as a guest. This brought Williams to tears as the guilt of her former rumormongering spilled out.
While a New York DJ, Williams said Goldberg was ugly, looked like a monkey, and had terrible hair. She also implied that Whoopi’s daughter Alex had a cocaine habit. Either Whoopi is a gullible person or has a heart of gold, because rather than telling Williams where to go, she accepted an invite to come on the show, and then didn’t use the opportunity to get her own back. Which is what I think I would have done. |
Canadians Break Dodgeball Record Video | Students and Staff in Alberta Smash World Record Posted: 15 Feb 2010 11:55 PM PST All eyes are on Canada now as it hosts the Winter Olympics, but just weeks ago the country achieved another sporting feat. The country may not have grabbed world headlines, but it did snare a world record. This fun video shows how they did it with interviews and plenty of chaotic dodgeball action. I’ll bet there were a few bruised bodies after this game! |
Watch Awesome New Samsung Transparent Laptop Screen Demo Video Posted: 15 Feb 2010 11:40 PM PST I just have one question at this point: Can people behind the screen see what you're doing? While the technology isn't actually currently available yet, the semi-transparent screen on this laptop holds some interesting possibilities for technology in the future. While I certainly wouldn’t recommend it as the new car windshield (can you imagine the chaos of having all that right in front of your face while you are driving), it could mean great things for many areas. Just imagine being able to have a sterilized, transparent tablet in surgery with you so you can have quick and easy access to documents, scans, ultrasounds, etc. We’re living in interesting times. |
PixelPerfect: How To Master Photoshop Web Series | Easy Step-By-Step Tutorials Posted: 15 Feb 2010 08:43 PM PST Bert Monroy has written several book on graphic designing in the past, and more recently, he started the web series PixelPerfect. You don’t have to be a Photoshop guru to follow these tutorials. In fact, it’s better if you aren’t. The problem with most Photoshop tutorials is that they’re mostly in text form. So naturally, visual learners (like me) have a hard time grasping the concepts. If you’ve ever followed a Photoshop tutorial only to be aggravated and disappointed an hour later, then you know that video tutorials are the best way to learn. With Bert’s clear explanations, chances are you’ll be creating something very similar to what’s on his screen. Bling Bling EpisodeIn this episode, you’ll learn how to make flashy jewelry-like objects. Unfortunately, the last episode of PixelPerfect aired a month ago, but there are still 160 tutorials left to follow. |
AnimeTV: Reviews of The Latest In Anime | Revision3 Reboots Cult Web Series Posted: 15 Feb 2010 04:58 PM PST AnimeTV is the niche web series to watch for hard-core anime fans. Every week they review new series, hold interviews with creators in Japanese animation, and even ask viewers to give their opinions. And if that isn’t enough for you, the show is hosted by one of the original Power Rangers. I first heard about AnimeTV last year and watched a few episodes, but the show never seemed to impress me. How could watching a group of people babble about how great a show really be called “reviewing?” Recently, the show was bought by Revision3 and given a complete makeover and reboot. Now there are two hosts and a larger budget; obviously the quality has improved. Episode 1In the first episode of the second season, the gang reviews Ghost In The Shell 2.0 and visits Bang Zoom. |
Hip Hop Comedy Music Video Celebrates the Obvious | Stores That Tell Me Exactly What They Are Posted: 15 Feb 2010 03:00 PM PST Most hip hop music passes me by. I can't relate to songs about pimps, hos, or copious amounts of bling. So I was thrilled to find this track which speaks to the Everyman, all of us out there who like stores that tell us exactly what they are. This might not be the world’s best hip hop ditty, but you just try to get it out of your head! |
The Elegant Guide: Sarcastic Advice For Women | Web Series By CNET’s Ella Morton Posted: 15 Feb 2010 01:01 PM PST Ella Morton, who you may recognize from online news sources like CNET and Rocketboom has started her own comedy series titled ‘The Elegant Guide’ which pokes fun at the old female stereotypes. If the ideal model female of the 1960’s was still relevant in today’s world, these are the types of PSA’s that women would be shown. Whether it’s talking on the phone seductively or standing with posture, Ella makes sure to point out all the important little rules in life that women should abide by in order to be successful. Of course, some of her advice would come off as a a bit sexist today, but that’s why the show is funny. Not only does Ella star in the series, but she is also responsible for all the writing. She describes her character as “quite evil” and I couldn’t agree more. Guide To ChildrenIn this episode Ella teaches you how to deal with bratty children in front of guests. |
Kitty Vs. Robot Video | Winner Guaranteed! Posted: 15 Feb 2010 11:51 AM PST Cats are fantastic creatures. They have it all. And I’m not talking about the life of luxury of eating, sleeping, and playing that most of them enjoy. I am instead referring to their ability to be the most laid-back animals ever, not giving a crap about anything, and then suddenly to turn into lean, mean, fighting machines. With sharp claws that can do some real damage.
This cat owner decided to pitch his pet against his robot arm. And, let’s face it, there was only ever going to be one winner. The cat is happy to walk off at first, let things lie, let the robot arm have his day. But when it persists in following moggy around the room, our feline friends pounces. And it’s an instant take-down. This makes me think that if robots ever try to take over the world, we should send an army of cats to take them out. They wouldn’t stand a chance. |
