Embellished Collar Dress from Miss Selfridge Posted: 13 Dec 2010 09:50 AM PST Among the many sharp, mod inspired sixties pieces available at the moment, there is still plenty of room for a more dreamy and ethereal silhouette in a vintage look wardrobe. Still clearly retaining that sixties influence, this Embellished Collar Dress from Miss Selfridge offers a more girly retro aesthetic. The chiffon fabric creates a great bell sleeve look, enhanced by the accented cuffs to match the collar. The neckline and peephole detailing at the collar are the key to the dress's retro appeal, however, adding some subtle impact to a dress that's feminine without being over the top. It's available now from Miss Selfridge for £50. Find out more from the website |
Suede Knee Skirt from Oasis Posted: 13 Dec 2010 08:02 AM PST While mini and pencil skirts are the go to for many retro looks, there's plenty of untapped options from 20th century fashion. This Suede Knee Skirt from Oasis has a great late sixties/early seventies feel thanks to the cut and textural fabric choice. Made from a warm camel shade of suede, the fabric is ideal for creating a stiff and structural a-line shape. With diagonal detailing, the high waist and knee length offer something that's both classic and unique among a sea of on the nose miniskirts and fifties floral numbers. Get it now from Oasis for £70. eBay watch: Sciolari 1960s hanging lamp Posted: 13 Dec 2010 07:42 AM PST If I had a house that would carry this light fitting off, I would certainly consider bidding on it. Sadly, the 60s-style palace eludes me right now, so I'm going to pass on this stunning Sciolari 1960s hanging lamp.
But if you have the high ceilings required to carry it off, it's well worth a look. A space age chandelier if you like, the chrome frame is suspended by a metallic chain, itself supporting the glass balls that throw out the lights. The entire fitting (presumably excluding the chain) is around 32cm in height.
Certainly distinctive and right now, just one pence, albeit with some time still to go.

Seventies racer cushion from Couverture Posted: 13 Dec 2010 05:11 AM PST This Seventies racer cushion from Couverture combines a bizarre mixture of the hand-made, the luxurious and the world of retro cars. The cushion features a depiction of a classic 70s car - not your usual illustration however, as this one has been hand-created, using needlepoint. The touch of luxury is added with the pure feather inner pad and the velvet back to the cushion. And, yes, also a luxurious price. This cushion costs £139. Order it online |
Parade print by Emily Forgot Posted: 13 Dec 2010 05:06 AM PST
It's an illustration that screams the '60s but in fact this Parade print by Emily Forgot is a contemporary piece. The image depicts some well-heeled and well-booted feet with the monochrome colour scheme adding to its style. In fact the title and the style of the illustration suggests it could be inspired by somewhere like the King's Road in the sixties with the peacocks coming out on parade. If you like this piece, take a look at the website for more of Emily's work, including some pieces that look like they've come out of the more surreal side of that decade. You can buy the print at A3 size for £30 or at A1 size for £105. Buy it from The Forgot Shop |
Tortie Hoare Leather and Walnut Desk Posted: 13 Dec 2010 02:28 AM PST Tortie Hoare may have won Designer of the Year 2010, but her Leather and Walnut Desk looks like something decades older. The leather creates a storage pouch at the end of the desk, and was created using the ancient technique of boiling leather. The desk is the perfect size for a laptop or simply a writing space. It is a limited edition piece of just 30, with each one handmade. The desk costs £1,582 and can be ordered via My Deco. |
Star Clock Posted: 13 Dec 2010 02:11 AM PST Rather different from George Nelson's clock of the same name, this Star Clock still has a midcentury style to it. Measuring 60cm in diameter, the clock is made from American Black Walnut, with the hours marked out with stainless steel. The hour and minute hands are also made from steel, which contrasts nicely with the dark wood. The Star Clock costs £104 from Tinsmiths. |
Adidas Stan Smith 80s trainers get a new reissue Posted: 13 Dec 2010 12:44 AM PST It is generally believed to the bestselling Adidas trainer in the company's long history, shifting around 30 million pairs since its introduction in 1971 (in various incarnations). This Adidas Stan Smith 80s reissue should bump that figure up a bit more.
This is the 1980s take on a classic, complete with thinner tongues and a less chunky silhouette. But aside from that, pretty much what you expect, with a white and green colour scheme, premium leather upper, perforated three stripes and off-white sole unit.
Pre-orders now being taken, £65 is the price.
