eBay watch: Robin Day for Hille Studio space age coffee table Posted: 18 Nov 2011 07:37 AM PST We featured one of these some time back, but as it's an affordable space age classic, happy to feature this Robin Day for Hille Studio coffee table once more. Not sure exactly when this first appeared, but it was in the late '60s as Day teamed up with Hille for some interesting designs in plastic. Look out for the 4-4000 armchair, another design we have featured in this eBay spot in the past. But let's focus on the table, which is an off white unit, signed at the bottom with the Day name and with that standout feature, the removable orange lid, which offers storage in the centre. |
1960s IBM Standard Issue Clock returns Posted: 18 Nov 2011 07:21 AM PST Tip of the hat to @Beatgrrrl on Twitter for spotting the return of this 1960s IBM Standard Issue Clock. Probably less of a cult item to us Brits than US readers, it's still a great utilitarian item and one-time staple of offices, warehouses and schools during the mid-20th century. This remade clock is hand assembled in our Portland, Oregon, with a spun steel case and domed glass lens, while the dial features an original graphic treatment, circa 1947. The clock is operated by a Quartz movement with a red, continuous sweep second hand. Sold with one C battery and hanging hardware, it's exclusive to Schoolhouse and sells for $235. However, this vintage market takes place in Altrincham in Cheshire, with the next event taking place this week. Specifically, we're talking this coming Sunday 20th November, the event running from 11am to 3.30pm spread over two sites - the main covered market on Greenwood Street market, and the lower market on the corner of Shaw Road (opposite the side entrance of Marks & Spencer's).This month there are more than 65 stalls selling everything from vintage clothing and homewares to locally-produced crafts and foodstuffs. There's also a pop-up tearoom selling homemade cakes, biscuits, savoury snacks and, now the weather's getting chillier, mulled wine, along with live music from the Twisted Vinyl DJs and buskers. If you can't make it this time, the market takes place every third Sunday of the month and admission is free. if you want more details, you can email the organiser here. |
