Mermaid Parade Video From Coney Island Posted: 19 Jun 2010 10:17 AM PDT Today sees the annual Mermaid Parade being held on Coney Island. The 2010 event looks set to be as fun and frivolous as the 2009 Mermaid Parade, which can be seen in the above video.
The Mermaid Parade is designed to celebrate Coney Island and its history, as well as the sun, sea, and sand. It’s held at this time of year to also welcome in the start of summer, although it looks as though it was a rainy affair last year. To take part, people dress up as mermaids (naturally), and other sea creatures. Celebrities who have taken part in previous years include Moby, Queen Latifah, and Harvey Keitel. The Mermaid Parade has been held since 1983, with a 21-and-up Mermaid Parade Ball added 8 years ago. |
“The Smurfs” Movie Teaser Trailer Released Video | 80s Cartoon Gets Modern Makeover Posted: 18 Jun 2010 05:46 PM PDT Whenever a part of my childhood gets a slick Hollywood movie makeover, I get a bit nervous. After watching the teaser trailer for The Smurfs, it seems I have good reason to be. The film does get a healthy dose of cred with Hank Azaria and Neil Patrick Harris cast alongside the vocal talent of Alan Cumming. But perhaps that's all negated with Raja Gosnell of Beverly Hills Chihuahua fame at the helm. We’ll find out soon enough when The Smurfs opens on July 29. |
Two Goals In 30 Seconds Video | One At Right End, One At The Wrong End For Goalkeeper Posted: 18 Jun 2010 02:13 PM PDT This is a fitting video seeing as we’re slap-bang in the middle of the 2010 World Cup from South Africa. However, nothing like this is likely to happen in the World Cup, although it would be brilliant to see it do so.
This video basically shows a goalkeeper having his best and worst moments in the space of 30 seconds. He scores a penalty at one end, then concedes a goal at the other while still celebrating his goal. There are two questions that need asking here: why is the goalkeeper taking a penalty in the first place? And why did the referee let the opposing team kick off before the goalkeeper was back in position? Still, it’s funny to see, especially as the goalkeeper is basically caught out over-celebrating. And credit has to be given to the goalscorer, as it’s a fantastic shot on goal. Even bearing in mind the goalkeeper was nowhere to be seen. |
