The Invention Of Lying Video | Ricky Gervais, Jennifer Garner, Rob Lowe Interviewed

Posted: 18 Jul 2010 09:14 AM PDT

The Invention Of Lying is now available to watch on HBO, and I recommend everyone who likes comedy do so. Particularly if you’re a fan of Ricky Gervais and his style of writing.

Gervais co-wrote, co-directed, and co-produced The Invention Of Lying, and he also stars in it. So it’s fair to say that if you don’t like Gervais this is one film you should probably avoid at all costs.

The Invention Of Lying, which was released in cinemas in 2009, see Gervais’ character as the inventor of lying in a world in which humans haven’t evolved the gene for lying.

The film caused controversy in the U.S. upon release because not only does it mention evolution, it dismisses the idea of religion completely as the prospect of Heaven is the first lie ever told.

So long as you have an open mind though, this should amuse and entertain. Even if the ending is a little stilted.

Author Losses Ability To Read (Video) | How Do Our Brains Process Words?

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 09:34 PM PDT

Have you ever stopped to think about the actual way that our brains process words? If you’re like me, then chances are you haven’t even thought about it since you were a young child first learning to read.

After author Howard Engel lost suffered from a stroke, he found himself unable to read words, yet still able to write them. Strange? Well, not really when you consider how our brains are really wired…

I hope I never get diagnosed with Alexia, because this clip makes it sound horrible to deal with. As it turns out, the way our brain processes signals from our eyes is completely different from the way that it does it with our hands.

Even more amazing is the fact that Howard has written two more novels since he was diagnosed with Alexia!

Dan Savage Talks Sexting (Video) | Interesting Point About Teen Sex Message Craze

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 06:55 PM PDT

We can always count on Dan Savage to deliver sensible, hype-free appraisals of some of the most topical issues of the present day. In this lecture he takes on sexting, and raises some very interesting ideas.

Whether you agree with Dan’s stance or not, it’s likely that some of the ideas in this speech will resonate with you. I particularly like the idea that as time marches on, sexting will become less of an outrage and more normalized. I also think there’s some credence in the sexist nature of all the moralizing.

I still think it’d be smarter for young girls to think before they got snap happy, but Dan’s views make a lot of sense.

Bizarre Earthquake Warning Video | Frankie Is Enthusiastic About Keeping People Informed

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 01:46 PM PDT

I love Frankie (last name unintelligible). He may not be the sharpest tool in the box, but I don’t care. He wants to warn people about an incoming earthquake, so takes to the Web to do so.

Look at him, he’s just so cool in his raincoat zipped up right to the top. OK, so his features are all squidged up into about one-third of his face, and his mouth is the biggest opening I’ve seen since the Gulf of Mexico oil leak, but still.

I love the way that rather than say “Attention citizens of,” and then list several counties, he affords each of them their own, unique “Attention.” Because he cares.

The video gets even better halfway in when the weather takes a turn for the worse. The rain and wind may be battering him relentlessly but he carries on regardless like a true professional.

What a guy!
