Ostrich Suitcase from Urban Outfitters Posted: 07 Dec 2010 10:29 AM PST With the hundreds of unreliable wheeled luggage pieces around at the moment, there really is nothing quite like a well crafted vintage style case to see you right. This Ostrich Suitcase from Urban Outfitters more than makes up in style and craft what it lacks in modern features. The faux-ostrich skin outer has great retro looks, while the lining and hardware don't put a foot wrong in the style stakes either. The size is ideal for a weekend bag or holdall, keeping all your bits and bobs looking achingly cool. Simple and chic is all you really need. It's now available from Urban Outfitters for £48. |
Kettle Corn Dress by Emily and Fin Posted: 07 Dec 2010 10:24 AM PST For the Christmas party season the high street is always determined to encourage us into buying a statement dress that only gets worn once. This Kettle Corn Dress by British designers Emily and Fin provides an alternative that's just as special, with classic and timeless looks you can wear again and again. The dress has a perfectly pitched silhouette, with a fifties style circle skirt and fitted bodice. The off the shoulder straps create an effortlessly elegant neckline, reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn's chic affinity for the little black dress. Get it online from ModCloth for $109.99. |
1950s Christmas Bustle tea towel Posted: 07 Dec 2010 07:58 AM PST After your Christmas dinner, continue the festive feel to your washing and drying up courtesy of this Christmas Bustle tea towel. Another great design found in the archive of Swedish firm Almedahls, this was originally designed by Aune Laukkanen in the 1950s. It's a suitably jolly design showing lines of elves readying the Christmas feast. Apparently providing a stack of tea towels is a traditional Swedish gift for hostesses - if that's a tradition you want to revive, surely this should be top of the pile? The tea towel costs $16. Little Winter Trees by Eloise Renouf Posted: 07 Dec 2010 05:37 AM PST Looking for some seasonally appropriate, reasonably priced original art with a retro feel? This Little Winter Trees print by Eloise Renouf is surely the answer to such a quest. Renouf is a Nottingham-based designer who interest in mid-century textiles and pattern is reflected in her work. Like the mid-century artists she admires, her designs use natural imagery, breaking it down to its skeletal forms. This print is a great example of her work, with the subdued pale colours used enhancing the Wintery look of the woodland scene. A4 sized, the print is limited to 100 copies and costs $25. Buy it from her Etsy store via Print & Pattern |
