Umbra Fishcondo - fish bowl shaped like a modernist house

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 11:07 AM PST

Fishcondo

I could be wrong, but I don't think we've ever featured a fish bowl before. But there's always a first time - and you can see why that first time is the Umbra Fishcondo.

Yes, this is a modernist-style house for your fish, designed by Teddy Luong and with the option to add other floors by simply buying an extra one. The inner glass bowl is removable for cleaning, with the outer shell made of durable ABS plastic.

Achica has them discounted right now, down from £40 to £22. Note that you'll have to sign up to view (and buy from) Achica, but that's free and very quick if you've not done it before. Fish, of course, are extra.

eBay watch: 1970s Guzzini-style Mushroom table lamp

Guz

It's probably high street rather than high end, but the look and condition of this Guzzini-style Mushroom table lamp make it worthy of our attention.

For your money, you get a look that screams the 1970s, with that vibrant orange plastic shade and chrome plated base, both described as being in 'good' condition and looking it in the photos. There are also two small bayonet fittings inside for the bulbs.

£29.99 is the current price on eBay.

Photoroid by Ryan Astle - turn your iPhone into a Polaroid camera

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 09:56 AM PST

Polaroid

A while back, we ran a feature on the best vintage camera apps for the iPhone, one of which was a Polaroid app. If you want to complete the look, you need Photoroid by Ryan Astle.

As you might have guessed, it converts your iPhone into a Polaroid camera. At least, in looks anyway. You get artwork for the back of your phone, with a smaller piece for the front, combining to create that vintage-style look.

It fits all iPhones, takes around five minutes to apply (and less to remove), with an online price of $14.99.

Bodum space age-style Bistro electric kettle

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 09:41 AM PST

Bodum

Home appliances don't often come with a retro twist. Or if they do, it's usually one inspired by the 1930s. That's not the case with the Bodum Bistro electric kettle.

This particular design is inspired by the space age era of the 60s and 70s, right down to the bold orange colour - although you can opt for one of the other five colour options if it's a bit much.

Apart from that, it's a typical electric kettle, capable of holding around half a litre of water. Oh yes - it's in the sale too, priced right now at £17.85 online.

For sale: 1950s-designed modernist Domus house in Burnley, Lancashire

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 09:33 AM PST

Domus1

If you thought the north in the 1950s was just terraced houses, factory chimneys and whippets, you really need to see this 1950s-designed modernist Domus house in Burnley, Lancashire, one of the finest midcentury houses we've seen on the market for quite some time.

Domus was built to 'specific architectural and modernistic designs' just outside Burnley in 1958 and much of that has been maintained over 50 years on. Check out the wonderful exterior of the huge four-bedroomed property, as well as the original concrete vaulted ceilings, the open living spaces and large glass windows. Plenty to enjoy inside too.

Domus2

The inside has a mix of the original and the modern - the hallways are pretty much as things were, as are the wood panelled walls, built-in oak furniture, the acoustic lined ceiling and the original bar with rosewood drinks shelving. That's all matched up with a virtually new kitchen and bathroom, plenty of modern design touches and some modern decor.

Not just the house, you're also getting surrounding gardens, a double garage and 5.7 acres of land to do with as you wish. It's an amazing and distinctive period property, but certainly not cheap - Domus is on the market for £750,000.
