The Doctor takes time out for Christmas |
We've already seen that the Daleks go Christmas Crazy every year, but the Doctor is also not immune to the holiday hysteria. This is nothing new to viewers of the BBC Wales Doctor Who series, but even back in the day, the Doctor took time out to raise a glass in honor of the season, even when the situation seemed as grim as it could get.
From November 1965 to January 1966, the Doctor fought his deadliest foes the Daleks in the multi-part story called The Daleks' Masterplan. In the midst of this story, a rather unusual episode aired called The Feast of Steven. A run around complete with prat falls and keystone coppers, it was revealed as a holiday celebration in the concluding moments when the Doctor brought out champagne and glasses for his companions Steven and Sara Kingdom.
He even wished a happy holiday to the viewers at home!
An animation using off-air sound and surviving still images as reference has been created by ocpmovie and it's lots of fun.
Here are telesnaps of the original episode:
Here's an additional video using David Bowie's Starman by Garrett Gilchrist (aka ocpmovie) Turn it up!
Finally, here's a rare clip from a 1978 BBC Bloopers Holiday tape featuring Tom Baker and Mary Tamm sharing a glass with K9 with odd results.
