eBay watch: Ercol midcentury nest of tables

Posted: 06 Jan 2011 08:43 AM PST

Ercol

We featured the colourful anniversary version of these last year, which came in at a hefty £525. As yet, the price of this particular Ercol nest of tables is nowhere near that.

Mind you, this is a used set, lacking the bold shades of the anniversary set. In fact, all the elm tables have a plain finish, as well as a bit of wear and tear-  the seller describing the set as being in 'very good used condition with some light superficial marks to the tops'.

You can make your own mind up about that from the images on the selling page. if you like what you see, the price right now is £5 for the set.

Ingela P Arrhenius nesting circus dolls

Ingela-arrhenius-nesting-circus-dolls
We've previously shown you the retro-style artwork of Ingela P Arrhenius and here, with this set of nesting circus dolls, her colourful designs are translated into 3D.

The set is a new take on Russian nesting dolls with five figures that each fit inside each other. The difference here is that they're all based on circus characters - including the lion tamer, the lion and the clown - from one of her prints. Made from wood, the resulting toy has a very traditional feel and is almost too nice to hand over to the kids.

Each set costs £18.95.

Edit by Edit music genre prints

Posted: 06 Jan 2011 06:32 AM PST

Edit by edit
How do you graphically depict a musical genre? That was the challenge Edit by Edit set to various designers, resulting in 13 different music genre screen-prints.

The genres selected range from the Twist to Acid House, so there's something for every kind of music lover. Each designer was only allowed to use one graphic element and one typeface, resulting in the restrained type of artwork shown here: Mark Boyce's take on soul and Duane King's depiction of New Wave. With their simple use of shapes and colour, the designs themselves are reminiscent of the work of someone like Romek Marber in the 1960s.

Each screen-print is A1 sized and priced $75. Or, if you're very musically minded, you can buy the whole set for $800.

Not just a 50s-inspired wallpaper range, Little Greene has gone back to source ongoing, teaming up with Manchester's Whitworth Art Gallery to reissue some of the best 1950s wallpapers under the name 50s Line Papers.

The Whitworth Art Gallery houses one of the largest wallpaper archives in the UK, with some real gems from the 1950s. In particular, some of the best were originally produced by celebrated wallpaper manufacturer, John Line & Sons of Southall, London, which are the ones being reissued now.

All the papers are careful interpretations of the original archive documents, both in scale and detail, one of which is pictured above, a couple more captured over the page. Little Greene's 50s Line Papers collection will be launched this month 2011 at Maison & Objet, Paris and then, from the beginning of February, the wallpapers will be available nationally and internationally through Little Greene's network of distributors or direct from the company. No news on pricing as yet - if you're interested, drop them a line.

Hasbro Monopoly Lap Tray and Coasters

Posted: 06 Jan 2011 02:26 AM PST

000113731If you spent a terse Christmas day playing board games with the family, then you might not want a product that is a further reminder, but if Monopoly only has happy childhood memories for you, then you may be interested in the Hasbro Monopoly Lap Tray and Coasters.

These are official products so the designs are exactly the same as on the classic London version of the board. The tray has an easy-wipe print of the game board on the top and a think cushion base underneath, made from beans which mould to fit your lap comfortably. The coasters take their design from the four corners of the Monopoly board.

The tray costs £16 and the coasters £6 from John Lewis.

Adidas Montreal trainers are a Size? exclusive in brown

The Adidas Montreal seems to the Size? exclusive trainer of choice at the moment. You can still pick up past colour options in limited sizes (although most sold out swiftly), but there's a new one coming your way in the coming weeks, an exclusive issue in brown.

The Adidas Montreal is quitw an interesting shoe, loosely based on the Gazelle design it has a distinctive collapsible heel that was designed to allow footballers to get the shoe on and off easily after training. Indeed, it's actually classed as a kind of 'clog' for that very reason. But let's be honest, it's not really one.

The latest colour option is down as brown and white, but looks more like a brown and beige to us, sat on top of that textured / matching gum sole unit. It's likely to sell fast, so you might want to register an interest at Size? to get notified when they hit the (virtual) shelves.

£59.99 is the price, with more colours to follow later in the year if brown isn't quite your thing.
