eBay watch: 1988 Austin Mini Designer Mary Quant Edition

Posted: 21 Jan 2011 09:08 AM PST

Quant

We have featured one of these in the past, but as they come up so infrequently - and we think they're a collectible of tomorrow - we're flagging up another Austin Mini Designer Mary Quant Edition.

This one dates from 1988, one of around 2,000 Mary Quant-designed Minis made at the time. But we suspect a good number have been scrapped since then. The ones that survive don't cost a fortune right now, but in time, they just might rise up in price.

The seller doesn't give lots away, but it looks like the outer Quant detail and that distinctive striped upholstery are all intact. Indeed, it's described as being in 'excellent condition throughout' with 'no rust, dents or scabs' you'll be pleased to know. Mileage isn't mentioned, drop them a line about that. Right now it's up for £1,800.

Update: Amazingly, another one has just gone up too, it's a bit cheaper as well. See details of that one here.

Space Invaders mirrors by Piero Lissoni for Glas Italia

Invaders

Not exact replica of the arcade aliens, the Space Invaders mirrors by Piero Lissoni for Glas Italia are actually inspired by the pixelated nasties of video games past.

The end result is what you see above, a set of sharp-angled mirrors that can each by hung in four ways, as well as together, to create some kind of fuinctional space age art for your walls.

They're sized around the 80 x 70cm mark, with each one sold separately. Sadly, being designer pieces, they don't come cheap, with prices from £488.

Clare Vine, the designer behind Elsy & Vine, obviously has fonder memories of childhood carvanning holidays than I do because she has named her retro caravan cushion, 'Happy Days' cushion.

The cushion is made from knitted lambswool with a repeat caravan print on one side and a contrasting polka dot design on the reverse. It is available in either the turquoise colours shown here or a pink and grey version.

The cushion costs £46.93 from the Hidden Art Shop.

1957 AMI ‘H’ Vinyl Jukebox at Pedlars, Selfridges

Pedlars has just taken delivery of this fully restored 1957 AMI 'H' Vinyl Jukebox and it is proudly on display at their concession in Selfridges on Oxford Street. So those of us who can not afford to buy it, can at least lust after in up close.

It is a classic 1950s design with an 'automobile screen' and lit pierced chrome 'bumper'. It is a 200 selection model, playing both sides of 100 records. Although rare, this is not the first of these jukeboxes we've featured – we mentioned one back in 2007, that was on sale for £9,900. Pedlars want £16,500 for this one, concrete evidence of soaring inflation if ever I saw it.

If you have that sort of money to spare, you can buy it online at the Pedlars website.
