Championship Manager 70s Legends for the iPhone and iPod touch

Cm70s

In a way, I'm surprised it's taken so long - a football manager game with a retro twist. Which is what you get with Championship Manager 70s Legends.

The title says it all, the long-running football manager sim now lets you manage a team full of 1970s legends - so buying the likes of Billy Bremner, Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Pele, Johan Cruyff, and Franz Beckenbauer is just a click away. Not just the players, the rules have changed back to the 70s too, which means the likes of 2 points for a win and 1 substitute only in England.

Choose from seasons 1970/10 through to 1979/80 and various countries, with each season complete with authentic, illustrated news stories from throughout the decade reflecting events as they happened. Available for the iPhone and iPod touch, it sells for £1.79.

Anchor Honeycomb Cardi by Sonia Rykiel

Rykielanchor

Many of mainstream fashion's interpretations of the fifties pin-up look rely on a very literal interpretation, amping up the sex appeal. This Anchor Honeycomb Cardi from Sonia by Sonia Rykiel uses more subtle elements, to create a retro piece with versatility.

The cream boating jacket provides an ideal base for cute nautical details like captain's jacket style buttons and an anchor motif. The result provides a piece of outerwear that can be adapted for a number of retro styles, from fifties to eighties looks.

It's available online in the UK from My Wardrobe for £301.

Tribal Paisley Kimono from Wallis

Posted: 26 Jan 2011 09:56 AM PST

Tribalkimono

As the high street moves towards plenty of seventies influence, there's many different looks to plunder for inspiration. This Tribal Paisley Kimono from Wallis taps into a late sixties/early seventies aesthetic, drawing from both tribal and eastern influences popular at the time.

The loose kimono cut creates an instantly seventies silhouette, with a deep v neckline and large batwing sleeves. The orange tribal paisley print takes inspiration from a later sixties hippy style, meshing influences of British and global fashion styles.

Get it now from Wallis for £60.

Joseph Joseph Vibrant vegetable worktop saver

Joseph joseph
Joseph Joseph are well known for their colourful worktop saver designs and this Vibrant Vegetable design is no exception. It's part of Linea range at House of Fraser that we featured a little while back.

The board is decorated with colourful, stylised vegetables illustrations that have something of an early 70s feel. That's the looks taken care of then but the board is also practical, made from heat-resistant toughened glass.

Even better is the news that it's currently on sale, reduced to £10.80.

1970s Nike Cortez trainers back in a light vinyl finish

Posted: 26 Jan 2011 08:18 AM PST

Cortez

A no-nonsense 1970s classic is back with a new finish - the Nike Cortez trainers.

Well, we say it's a new finish - it is and it isn't. The new material is a lightweight nylon upper, but the colour scheme is apparently an original college colourway. Specifically, that's white with a touch of red and blue, plus an oversized 'swoosh'.

Available online, a pair retails for £49.

There's no better way to update your look for spring than with a fresh new handbag and this sugared-almond pink confection ticks all the right boxes.

It's a good size with a couple of pockets inside to organise all your bits and bobs and a handy shoulder strap. The real appeal however, is in the gorgeous pink patent embellishment which stands out in relief in a geometric art deco design. Visible stitching and polished metal detailing on the handle help to give a luxe-feel that will get you set for the new season.

It costs £39.99 from River Island

eBay watch: 1970s Heath digital super clock

Posted: 26 Jan 2011 05:53 AM PST

Heath

An interesting design that still catches the eye 35 years after it was introduced - this Heath digital super clock.

It's apparently a 1976 design, with a teak case and a bold digital display, with each orange digital number 'the size of a cigarette box' on a black background. There are also controls on the back for setting the time, with mains offering the power.

The seller claims it is, 'very well-tended, hardly used or probably unused', with little or no signs of age. A few bids on this right now, but the price is still only £6.64, albeit with some days to go.

Typewriter ceramic vase by House Doctor DK

Typewriter vase
Vintage typewriters are having something of a style moment. I've lost track of the amount of objects they've cropped up on recently, from brooches and earrings to cushions and bags. The latest to use their good looks is this Typewriter ceramic vase by House Doctor DK

The vase is made from white ceramic and is decorated with a simple black motif of a typewriter, and a string of type coming out of the machine. Like this? There's also a vase available featuring another fashionable motif of the moment - the bicycle.

The vase costs £22.50.

A Two Pipe Problem Letterpress Studio

  2pipe_v2

A Two Pipe Problem is a Walthamstow-based letterpress studio run by graphic designer Stephen Kenny. Using his collection of old wooden blocks and metal type he designs and prints striking posters featuring quotes inspired by music, film and literature. The typography creates a strong visual impact with classic style and the antique nature of the materials used means that no two posters are the same.

Stephen will also undertake commissions to produce one-off posters to commemorate weddings and births and if you really have the letterpress bug, you can even attend a workshop at his studio and learn a little bit about the history of the press and then create your own poster to take home.

The poster featured above costs £32 and you can find out more about Stephen and his work here

The London Underground map is an accepted design classic in its own right, but its reinterpretation for the London Underground Film Map Collection, gives it a different spin.

Here the station names have been replaced mainly with the names of films which have been filmed near that station in the past 70 years. Other stations have been renamed with actors, directors or television shows with local connections. The design is available on various products including mugs, t-shirts and placemats.

Prices range from £4.95 for a travelcard wallet up to £24.95 for a set of placemats.  See the whole collection online at the London Transport Museum shop.
