River Island relaunch Chelsea Girl range Posted: 16 Mar 2011 11:34 AM PDT Though many high street brands have injected some vintage inspiration into individual pieces of late, it's River Island that's ahead of the pack with their Chelsea Girl range. Taking on the name and image of River Island circa 1965, we loved some of their 2010 items, and the relaunched 2011 fare looks set to impress. Taking inspiration from the brand's own archive designs, the line offers 60s, 70s and 80s looks with a sprinkling of modern cut and fabric choice. From the original UK fashion chain, expect easy to wear pieces that are unmistakeably retro. Shown above are two of their sixties looks, paving the way for some impressive looks at high street prices. The line launches in River Island stores and online on the 24th of March, with Selfridges planning an exclusive pop-up shop too. |
Blue Halterneck Bikini from George at Asda Posted: 16 Mar 2011 11:08 AM PDT As always the Spring/Summer collections of high street retailers has reached us before the sunshine in Britain, with plenty of inspiring choices for that holiday you're considering. This Blue Halterneck Bikini from George at Asda is a great retro choice for the coming months, at the brand's usual bargain prices. The shape of the two-piece takes obvious inspiration from fifties pinup styles, with a halterneck and twist at the bustline. The full briefs tie the ensemble together, finished in a blue bright enough to stand out among the most tropical of backdrops. Get it from George at Asda now for just £10, sold as separates. |

We've made huge technological strides forward from the days of typewriters and copy correction fluid referenced on this rather smart and thoroughly modern faux leather laptop sleeve. It has a soft black exterior impressed with a pattern of vintage typewriter keys and a nod to the movie classic "The Shining" with the repeated lines "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." The sleeve will accomodate laptops and notebooks with up to 15 inch screens. It costs £25 and is available from the Pod Company here. |
eBay watch: 1970s space age Guzzini table lamp Posted: 16 Mar 2011 09:44 AM PDT This is a stunning design, as well as a rare one - so this original Guzzini table lamp is well worth the money. |

Nice to see you doormat at Colloco Posted: 16 Mar 2011 06:34 AM PDT It's a simple coconut doormat decorated with the phrase 'Nice to see you, To see you nice'. Posted: 16 Mar 2011 05:52 AM PDT The second wallpaper collection from Finnish design house Marimekko is full of their trademark bold colour and retro style. Designed by Maija Louekar, Kippis (meaning "cheers") features abstract black and white line drawings of glasses and goblets with colourful accents in red, blue, pink, green and yellow. It would make a striking feature wall in a kitchen or lounge and is durable too - apparently extra-washable so able to withstand hard-partying friends or small sticky-fingered people, depending on your situation. Kippis is available from Wallpaper Direct and costs £72.95 per roll. Find out more here. |

It's not just for indoors too - thanks to its self-supporting steel frame, this chair is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Not so cheap, but still reasonably priced when compared to similar designs, the chair costs £799. Buy it online |
