The first Saturday of May each year, comic book shops all over the world celebrate Free Comic Book Day. Since 2002, this rich tradition has been followed to welcome new readers to the fold as well as encourage those who may be interested in comics due to the many feature films or video games that promote the many iconic heroes in print.A wide variety of comics will be made available at your local shop, but keep in mind that while these books may be free for the customers they are not free to store owners so make sure to support your local comic book seller and pick up an armful of fine books in addition to these lovely freebies.
Below is a sampling of books that may be available at local participating shops, but please be aware that the selections vary from shop to shop. Also, supplies are limited so if you plan on getting a specific free comic, be sure to get in the door bright and early. In addition to the free comic books, many shops holds special promotion sales and in some cases miniature conventions, featuring comic creators.
Ultimate Comics in Durham, NC will be hosting an event with special guests JP Leon (Earth X, DMZ), Daniel Way (Deadpool, X-Men, Daken), Tommy Lee Edwards (Turf, 1985) and Brian Clevinger (Atomic Robo, Captain America) and more!
Jetpack Comics in Rochester, NH will be welcoming Christos Gage (Avengers Academy), Ed McGuinness (Hulk), Jason Ciaramella (The Cape) and authors Tom Sniegoski (Fallen) and Chris Golden (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Hellboy).
