Stripe Prom Dress from Marks and Spencer Posted: 13 Jun 2011 10:30 AM PDT Undeniably fifties influenced prom styles have been seen all over the high street for the past few years, with a twist on the style for every body shape and taste. While there are some designers still rehashing those same styles, this Stripe Prom Dress from Marks and Spencer's Autograph collection has moved into the early sixties to bring something new. This dress combines the best of the cutesy fifties feel with some sharper sixties elements, creating a dress with plenty of retro appeal. The large monochrome stripes work well against a structured skirt shape, with the oversized bow adding a wonderfully over the top kitsch element. Get yours from M&S now for £79. |
Essential Elegance Skirt by Moon Collection Posted: 13 Jun 2011 10:00 AM PDT The classic fifties style circle skirt is an item that many retro brands offer, with most utilising a bold colour scheme or print to stand out from the crowd. Sometimes, however, the order of the day is a more versatile version, making this Essential Elegance Skirt by Moon Collection one that's ideal for your every day wardrobe. The circle cut, with its two layered design, creates a classic swing silhouette that creates a chic hourglass shape. With a neatly tailored high waist and full hips, the designers haven't skimped on the fabric volume, allowing for the movement that's often missing from lesser vintage odes. It's available online from ModCloth for $69.99. |

Posted: 13 Jun 2011 02:41 AM PDT The sunglasses originated in the late 1970s in France, where they were developed for use in skiing and other winter sports. However, they reached their hey-day in the 1980s, when their folding frame and looks found favour on the street too. They're back again, to see if they can reach such levels of popularity again in 2011. This matt vanilla pair costs £45. Buy them from Glass Boutique |
Miniature Bitossi animals from SCP Posted: 13 Jun 2011 02:17 AM PDT You may remember these from when they were reissued a few years ago. The Bitossi animals are now back in miniature form, and selling at SCP. The distinctive blue ceramic creatures were originally designed in the early 50s by Aldo Londi. They've picked ten of the designs and literally shrunk them - they now range from 3cm to 12cm in height. Something of a sense of exclusivity about them too - only a thousand of the sets are being made in total. The set costs £419, or you can contact the store for the price of individual animals. Posted: 13 Jun 2011 02:00 AM PDT Bristol-based artist & printmaker Tom Frost has brought together his playful retro-inspired art and love of 1950s tin toys and created these truly unique model Cars. The Cars are made using layers of carved plywood, which are then coated in Tom's retro car screen-prints and finished with wheels made of vintage Meccano and, of course, a suitably dapper driver behind the wheel. The ultimate retro toy for the big kid in your life. Cars are £210 each from Boxbird Gallery. See the website for more details. |
