Old Bamboo Bag from Ollie & Nic Posted: 02 Aug 2011 12:02 PM PDT The body of the holdall has a boxy, old school satchel feel, while the addition of a short and stiff bamboo handle adds something new without compromising the classic appeal. In a great shade of tan leather, there's an instant retro feel, with gold buckle fastening too. It's now available online from Ollie & Nic for £55. |
Silk Waterfall Dress from French Connection Posted: 02 Aug 2011 11:56 AM PDT A simple way to creating a true retro impact from fashion is to keep the design classic and simple, relying on the cut and draping to flatter the silhouette. That simplicity works best with well chosen fabrics, like in this Silk Waterfall Dress from French Connection. The rich navy silk fabric does all the work, allowing for effortless draping of the dress across the body. The waterfall sleeve detailing adds some high end flair to a classic forties-inspired tea dress shape, creating eveningwear with real vintage credentials. It's available from French Connection now for £135. |
Anorak Kissing Rabbits Tuck Box Posted: 02 Aug 2011 11:14 AM PDT Ideally this box would be crammed full of enough sherbert lemons and liquorice allsorts to see you through the term ahead but if you're past school age there's still a definite appeal to having a stylish place to store your bits and pieces. The box is made of coated canvas on hardboard and has solid brass fittings. It measures 50.8cm x 33cm x 27.9cm so it ought to make a sizeable secure hiding place for all of your treasures. The box costs £125 from Anorak here. |
Decade Sweet Boxes at A Quarter Of Posted: 02 Aug 2011 07:46 AM PDT Fancy a pile of sweets themed to a particular era? That's what you get with these Decade Sweet Boxes at A Quarter Of. |
Studio Couch in Donna Wilson Fabric Posted: 02 Aug 2011 07:26 AM PDT The latest combines the classic Lucian R Ercolani design with fabric by Donna Wilson, another name that should be familiar to regular readers. The couch is made from beech with the cushions upholstered in Donna Wilson and SCP's Nos Da fabric, which looks as if it comes from the 1950s too. It is currently on sale priced just over £2,130 (having previously been £2,450). You can take a closer look at it on the SCP website, although you can't buy it directly online. Note that SCP also has the retro-styled Donna Wilson Mabel sofa in its sale. You can find out about that here. |
Go Team Go! Popcorn Cones from Pedlars Posted: 02 Aug 2011 07:17 AM PDT Bring some retro flavour to spectator sports with these clever Popcorn Cones from Pedlars. Fill with popcorn to scoff whilst you watch the game, then once it's gone, pop out the end stopper and cheer your team on through your very own megaphone. Add baseball, beer and hotdogs for the authentic all-American experience. These are original cones which date from the mid-1960s. They measure 26cm long and come in a choice of red or blue. They cost £12 each from Pedlars - find out more here. |
Content by Conran Aspen Armchair Posted: 02 Aug 2011 07:11 AM PDT John Lewis's Content by Conran range currently includes this Aspen Armchair. The chair's distinctive shape is midcentury style at its best. It has slim arms, sled legs and is upholstered in a bright yellow fabric called "Starfruit", which may not be everyone's first choice of colour, but it works well with this design. It costs £1,095 from John Lewis. |
eBay watch: 1958 Renault Dauphine car in original condition Posted: 02 Aug 2011 04:03 AM PDT At first glance, you might think this is one of the retro Nissan reissues like the Figaro or the Pao, but this is far older and out of France - the Renault Dauphine. |
Posted: 02 Aug 2011 03:08 AM PDT A seemingly unlikely source of mid-century influenced design, this retro mirror comes from Next. It's a nice change to see a mirror that looks to the 50s and 60s without resorting to a starburst style design. This mirror has a rectangular frame with a curve to the inside edge of the frame that gives it more of a softer look. The quality of the material reflects its high street origins - it's 'oak effect' but the mirror is pretty good looking nonetheless. The mirror costs £99. Order it online |
Rubber Duck shower curtain from Bliss Posted: 02 Aug 2011 03:08 AM PDT It's a normal plastic shower curtain that's been brightened up with the repeated image of a charming yellow duck. If you haven't heard of Bliss, they make rather expensive spa type products and have a chain of rather expensive spas - so this design seems a bit of an unlikely match for them. However, who can argue when the result is as fun as this? The shower curtain costs £20. Buy it from House of Fraser |
