1950s-style Grid by Hemingway wallpaper at Graham & Brown Posted: 29 Aug 2011 06:28 AM PDT If you are working on creating a room in a 1950s, or indeed, early 1960 style, you might want to take a closer look at this rather stylish Grid by Hemingway wallpaper at Graham & Brown. Part of a new vintage range for the company, this one offers up a period geometric look in a colour scheme of grey, stone, red and yellow. Sponge clean too, should you be worried about the upkeep of your investment. You can pick up a roll or order a sample at the Graham & Brown site. Each roll is 52cm wide and about 10m long, selling for £30. You can see a close-up of the pattern below. Find out more at the Graham and Brown website |
Tsovet SVT-FW44 vintage-style watch range Posted: 29 Aug 2011 06:02 AM PDT A timeless design that's actually inspired by the infantryman's field watch in World War One - the Tsovet SVT-FW44 vintage-style watch range. It might looks like a vintage timepiece, but the SVT-FW44 is every bit the modern timepiece underneath those looks. Take our pick from the brown or black finish, with the watches offering up a Ronda 515 Quartz-driven movement, a 12.65mm thick aerospace grade stainless steel case, a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective face, an Italian calfskin strap with contrast stitching, a hand-assembled case, water-resistance and a PVD-coated dial, non-magnetic etched with a matte finish. It is priced from £269. Find out more at the End Clothing website |
Fitz retro-styled table lamp at Habitat Posted: 29 Aug 2011 05:49 AM PDT Ok, a number of the stores might be closing, but Habitat has new owners and is still going strong as a retailer, especially online. This Fitz retro-styled table lamp is one thing you can pick up online for not a lot of cash. It's a new design, but with a shape inspired by 1960s Scandinavian pieces. In fact, it would probably pass for a period vase. Except it's not a vase, this is a table lamp, which just requires a 25w bulb to light up a corner of your home. £12 is the very modest asking price, with three colours to choose from. Terra Nova – an Homage to Dan Dare limited edition print by Hand Drawn Creative Posted: 29 Aug 2011 05:36 AM PDT From the people who brought us the Battle of the Planets prints and the recent God Save The Kinks screenprint comes this very cool Terra Nova – an Homage to Dan Dare limited edition print by Hand Drawn Creative. The print, an homage to 1950's British sci-fi comic book hero Dan Dare, was originally created for Fictional Travel Posters showcase, but was received so well, it has gone into production. The title (Terra Nova), as fans might know, was the title of one of Frank Hampson's final Dan Dare strips. It is A3-sized, professionally printed in Belfast using 'the finest textured paper' (Nettuno Bianco Artico 140GSM) and is limited to just 20 copies. If you want one, £18.78 is the price. |
Retro Rooms: Zoe Worsley in Beckenham, Kent Posted: 29 Aug 2011 05:16 AM PDT We've not done one of these for a long time, perhaps because we stopped asking you to send in your Retro Rooms. Do feel free to send us snaps if your retro-inspired rooms or houses (and some details about them), just like Zoe Worsley in Beckenham. Zoe has done the logical thing - she has a 1970s-built apartment (the block was built in 1977 and is pictured below), so she's gone for a '70s-inspired theme for the place. In terms of what you see in the photo, the unit was picked up from eBay for just 99p (just to show there are still bargains out there), with the glass dining room table, clock, stool and material (to make the wall hanging) also eBay bargains over the years. The dark wood flooring came with the flat. Also, the bar came from a vintage shop in Greenwich (sadly no longer there), the lamp and plant holder were passed down in the family and the rug came from this vintage seller. |
eBay watch: Unique Mini Shorty car Posted: 29 Aug 2011 04:38 AM PDT This is an interesting car, with the Mini Shorty possibly a unique car too. Here's the story according to the seller. The car is called Sammy and was built to be a character in a children's story series called The Adventures of Sammy Siren, but built as if this was how he came from the Austin factory in 1970. But it's still a working, road legal Mini, with a standard engine and the original gearbox. Just a lot smaller than a classic Mini. The seller says 'Sammy' is registered as a historic car, so no road tax. It's also taxed and tested, ready to drive away, just as long as there's only two of you on board. |
