RETROKIMMER: ThE NiNeS LIVE AT WOODRUFFS Posted: 20 Aug 2011 02:06 PM PDT Lesley and I hung out until 2 am in my home town of Ypsilanti, Michigan. My main reason to trek down there was to scout a new band ThE NiNeS... My friend Randy Bernard's son Kevin is the bass player for the band. It was a real treat to hear three young energetic bands. The Muggs were the headliner and one of my favorite Detroit drummers Todd Glass was on stage. Todd Glass Todd Glass plays with the Muggs, Jimmy McCarty's Mystery Train, and tours Europe with Robert Gordon and our pal Greasy Carlisi. A very busy man indeed. It is so hard to photograph Todd as he is so into those heavy beats... That hair! But I finally got a cool shot of TG... After the Muggs set was over I went to see Todd and he gave me one of his sticks and autographed it for me. YAY Todd Glass and Greg Ornazian's stick! Both Greg and Todd can really pound. Went onstage and said hey Todd! He looked up and had a big grin! Todd said, Retrokimmer! You're here in person! Nice.. I had wanted one of his autographed sticks to add to my collection. ThE NiNeS My job last night was to scout ThE NiNeS. I have to say I really got into these young guys and their energy.. They covered Mark Farner's song "Inside Lookin Out" I loved it. Sat at my table keeping beat with my drum sticks.. So much fun. The young kids around me were surprised to see that Kimmer new every word of the lyric and every drum beat too. Such a blast! Read my other story HERE Ian Kirwan Ian Kirwan is just drop dead gorgeous. Such bright talent and beautiful smile. He can really play that guitar and has hot vocals as well. His mom Jill, dad Jim and fabulous grandmother Peggy sat with me all night. Peggy and I got along like a house on fire... Peggy... I lost your number so get mine from Randy ok? Or email me retrokimmer@gmail.com. Think Peggy might come out and play with me soon! Maybe next weekend in Ann Arbor... Kevin Bernard Lesley really liked Kevin and his music the most! He was the quiet one... What a fantastic bass he plays.. A 1973 Fender Jazz Bass. Kevin's dad is also a great bass player that handed his talent down to his son. Randy plays with Slaves of Illuminati I hope to shoot their next show soon... Lesley with drummer Greg Ornazian (my stick!) Greg was a big surprise to me... Wow what a fabulous drummer. Check Greg's style in the video shot last night. Boy can really blast those skins.. Ian's mom Jill told me that after they rehearse at her home she has a ton of splintered wood to collect! He plays with really heavy sticks. The guys were all so great looking, positive and fun. I walked by them on the sidewalk in Depot Town and they yelled out that I should hang out till 12 midnight to catch their set. I popped back and said hey I am here to shoot YOU... with that they ran up and we met their folks and girlfriends too. I forgot to charge my handycam so I had just enough battery to shoot the first song. They were so great for just a three piece. Wish I could have got the Farner song too... Randy Bernard Brian Begdorian and Todd Glass Randy, Brian, and I made pests of ourselves hanging out with Todd and slowing down their move out. Brian is the lead singer of Slaves of Illuminati and was the lead vocals for one of my favorite bands BOGART. We young girls loved to catch that band at the Studio Lounge because they were just so personable and nice to their fans. Love Brian's voice too. Bri is just a beautiful one and such a great friend to me. I met Brian this summer and we became fast pals. Love his wife Victoria too. Beautiful couple. Read my story about Brian HERE Randy Kimmer Jill and Jim I couldn't believe how short I look with this crowd! I am 5'8 and still looked like an elf! Funny group too. All in all we had such a fun time and we look forward to helping promote NiNeS around the globe! Much love and hugs to all from the gig last night! All the bands were fantastic...
