Wonderland Flared Coat from French Connection Posted: 05 Sep 2011 09:20 AM PDT Now that the British Summer Time is officially over (if it ever really began), the high street have fully embraced the coming Autumn/Winter season's fashions. Thankfully that means a whole new batch of retro fodder, especially in outerwear. This Wonderland Flared Coat from French Connection is a chic little sixties-inspired piece that manages to make a statement, while remaining classic enough for every day wear. The swing skirt of the coat creates a striking silhouette, balanced by the side-fastening button placket. Finished off with a collarless neckline, there's plenty of vintage appeal to be found. It's now available from French Connection UK for £190. |
Dice as Nice Dress by Eva Franco Posted: 05 Sep 2011 09:20 AM PDT For unmistakeably vintage inspired looks it's often the most simplistic pieces that have the most impact, opting for meticulous design and manufacturing instead of over-the-top retro details. This Dice As Nice Dress by designer Eva Franco has a chic structure that creates an instant fifties feel. The contrast between a wide flaring skirt and fitted bodice creates that swing style silhouette, while the pleating of the circle skirt ensures added fullness in the circle skirt. The large polka dots on cream fabric are timeless, while the bright orange ribbon bow gives a hint of youthful and girlish fifties fashion. It's exclusive to ModCloth, retailing at $247.99. |
Aimee Wilder Gameland wallpaper Posted: 05 Sep 2011 05:51 AM PDT Aimee Wilder's love of a retro pattern is no secret: just take a look at her robot and cassette tape inspired wallpapers that we've previously featured. Her new Gameland wallpaper also looks to the past and is based on images of video games. The wallpaper is covered with a repeated pattern showing various different consoles. Each of the console is showing a different should-have-been video game with titles like Fossil Hunter, Vector Galaxy and Vampire Smash, with scenes from the games rendered in true period pixellated style. There are eleven different colourways to pick from, including some metallic finishes. The wallpaper costs $150 a roll. Buy it from her shop |
eBay watch: Large 1970s Harvey Guzzini table lamp Posted: 05 Sep 2011 05:02 AM PDT If you want an image of the 1970s, this large Harvey Guzzini table lamp could pretty much sum it up. It's also on eBay right now. Coming in at around 24 inches in height, it's a dominant item, that's fire sure, with the orange of the shade giving it even more presence. The chrome has 'some scratching' due to age, but doesn't look in bad condition overall. It still has the original Harvey Guzzini sticker too, which is reassuring to see. £180 is the current asking price. Also, the same seller has a pair of stylish Guzzini-style table lamps and an interesting 1970s desk lamp, which are also well worth checking out. Find out more at the eBay website |

From The Deep Cup & Saucer from Anthropologie Posted: 05 Sep 2011 03:59 AM PDT The From The Deep Cup & Saucer set from Anthropologie is inspired by the much-loved vintage blue Spode ware, with a nautical twist. Inside the cup, you'll spot a tiny galleon sailing the seven seas. If you take a closer look at the handle, you'll see it's a tentacle, leading down to the ominous looking giant squid on the saucer. This crockery-based seafaring adventure is then finished off with pale blue stripes. The set is microwave & dishwasher safe and there are other similarly swashbuckling pieces available in the range. If you fancy an epic battle on the high seas taking place in your morning tea, the From The Deep Cup & Saucer will set you back £16. Visit the Anthropologie website for more details.

Posted: 05 Sep 2011 02:57 AM PDT The desk has slightly angled legs to give it a midcentury look and features two drawers and a shelf on top of the unit. Its finish as described as oak effect, so I think it is safe to assure that it isn't made from solid wood, but then for £140 that might be expecting too much. Buy it online from Next. |
