eBay watch: 1950s midcentury mini sideboard Posted: 23 Sep 2011 04:07 AM PDT Not a designer piece, but this 1950s midcentury mini sideboard certainly has a 'look' and for not a lot of cash right now. For your money, you get a large main square body with 'trapezoidal' sides with an overhang edge, two doors revealing storage space and four angled legs. Very much of the era. It's described as being in 'very good original condition' but has suffered a bit on the top edges as signs of repairs can be seen in the photos (of which there are many online). But on the plus side, just £9 right now and the seller ships worldwide. Find out more at the eBay website |
Soma wallpaper by Basso & Brooke Posted: 23 Sep 2011 04:00 AM PDT Unlike a lot of retro-influenced wallpapers we feature, this Soma wallpaper from Basso & Brooke takes it's inspiration from modernism. The abstract geometric design is pure Bauhaus-inspired modernism. The use of bold pastels and avant garde shapes perfectly encapsulate the early 20th century movement and certainly won't fail to catch your eye when plastered on your walls. The Soma Wallpaper is currently available from Graham & Brown for the very reasonable price of £15 per roll. See the website for more details. |
Scarpa Draughtsman Desk from Graham & Green Posted: 23 Sep 2011 04:00 AM PDT Give your home office an industrial make over with this rather impressive Scarpa Draughtsman Desk from Graham & Green. The desk is a very serious and sizeable piece of reproduction furniture, with a mango hardwood top and fully tiltable legs with a distinct vintage industrial feel. Pair with the matching Scarpa stool and you will have pitch-perfect paired down chic. Now all you have to do is master the art of architectural drawing. The Scarpa Draughtsman Desk is £795 from the Graham & Green website. |
Midcentury-style Miss Vivienne sofa and armchair at Sofa Workshop Posted: 23 Sep 2011 03:50 AM PDT Some amazing high street retro design in the form of the Miss Vivienne sofa and armchair at Sofa Workshop, which is shown here (and over the page) in Romo Quintus Nori and Heloise Nougat fabric. Although you can choose from a seemingly endless choice of fabrics for yours. Both sofa and armchair ooze midcentury style, but are modern designs, handmade in britain and with a 10-year frame guarantee (so hopefully no 'slump'). Curved/angled arms, a curved back and angled/tapered wooden legs, that just about sums it up.There's also some midcentury-style furniture to go with it, three wooden tables in various sizes (see those on the site), as well as that footstool for the armchair. As for prices, the sofa sells for £1,359, the armchair £838 and the footstool is £341, but prices vary up and down depending on our fabric choice. |
Barcelona Pavilion Bird Bath Feeder by Monique Engelund for Menu Posted: 23 Sep 2011 03:27 AM PDT Fancy some iconic modernist design in your garden? You need the Barcelona Pavilion Bird Bath Feeder by Monique Engelund for Menu, which also does a few favours for your feathered friends too. For the uninitiated, the Barcelona Pavilion was designed in 1929 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the International Exposition in Barcelona that year. Unfortunately, this futuristic building was torn down in 1930, although a group of Spanish architects reconstructed the pavilion permanently between 1983 and 1986 from the original plans and photos, so it does survive in a way.Anyway, you can have your very own version on our garden, thanks to this design. Just stick the spike in the ground and the birds get the bath in that sunken pool or eat within the wooden 'pavilion' part. They'll come flocking from miles around. Available as a pre-order now, you can pick one up for £129. Find out more at the Panik Design website |
