For sale: 1960s Gordon-Dixon-designed house in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex

Posted: 04 Oct 2011 11:29 AM PDT

Bex1

Not just an interesting property, this 1960s Gordon-Dixon-designed five-bedroom house in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex also comes with its own imported vintage kitchen.

Bex3

It's a four or five-bedroom house (depending on your choice of layout) in a secluded half acre plot, the work of architect Gordon Dixon back in 1965. Some updating has taken place, but much of it is sympathetic, with original features like the double height living room with floor to ceiling windows, an original green marble fireplace and extensive hardwood parquet flooring all still present. But interestingly, there's been a vintage-style addition too - an original 1950s kitchen, imported from Philadelphia, USA by the current owners.

Bex4

In terms of specific accommodation, there are four bedrooms, along with three reception rooms, that period kitchen, a bathroom, separate WC and an en-suite shower room. Outside, you'll find those extensive grounds to front and rear, a gated entrance, driveway parking and a double garage.

If all of that appeals, the price is £399,950.

Rebecca Box Coat from Monsoon

Posted: 04 Oct 2011 07:15 AM PDT

Rebeccaboxcoat

As often happens in fashion, the least practical items are usually the most appealing. Thankfully with high street prices you can forgive yourself the indulgence, especially with pieces as irresistably retro as this Rebecca Box Coat from Monsoon.

The sharp white is an immediately striking choice of outerwear colour, lifting your Autumn/Winter wardrobe in an instant. The simple box coat shape is given an added shot of sixties appeal thanks to the faux fur trims at the collar, cuffs and rear skirt, combining with the coat to tread that line of glamour and sharp design that characterised much of the decade's later fashion output.

It's now available from Monsoon for £140.

Space age Moon Chair by Mike To for Made.com

Posted: 04 Oct 2011 06:51 AM PDT

Moon

A design that could have come out of an episode of Space 1999 or indeed, a futuristic design exhibition from the late 1960s. But the Moon Chair by Mike To for Made.com is actually a new design, available to order online right now.

The chair is very much in that late '60s, early '70s groove, an era when plastic was the future and space travel was just around the corner. If it's an era you love, this fibreglass chair will fit into your home just fine, offering a functional and stylish piece of furniture as an added bonus.

Don't worry, you don't have to go for orange, there are other colours to choose from too. You don't need to use it in the home either - that fibreglass construction means you can use it in the garden too.

The full price is £839, but as ever, if you order early at Made, you get the big discount. In this case, order in the next five or so days and you can secure one for £399.

eBay watch: James Seccombe-designed 1970s space age plastic bed

Posted: 04 Oct 2011 05:42 AM PDT

Bed1

A real gem up for auction right now, this James Seccombe-designed 1970s space age plastic bed.

It's the kind of thing you'll find impossible to buy these days - try finding a plastic bed online, you'll find they don't exist (except as toys). But back in the '70s, plastic was the future and this bed was probably a cutting edge design.

Today, it's a quirky piece that could be the finishing touch for a '70s-inspired home, as it's still a practical thing. According to the seller, the bed has integrated bedside tables with mirror tops and four spacious underbed drawers on runners. All of which 'slots together a bit like Lego' (making it easy to transport). There is also a padded headboard, which is also easily removable, should you want to re-cover. It takes a standard double mattress too, should that be a concern.

Bed2

As for condition, it's described as 'very good for its age', with 'some slight whitening in places, some stress marks and some very small scratches, which really don't show'. There are no cracks or chips, although the current fabric on that headboard 'has come away in places', but should be easy to sort out.

If you want this space age gem in your home, the current price is £65.

Archimedes Desk

Archimedesdesk
Desks may be the new sideboards, in that I see a new one that I love every week, but probably only need one for my home. The latest to take my fancy is the Archimedes Desk from Graham and Green.

Made from sheesham and mango wood, it is in a style that I suppose might be described as colonial, but it is given a twist with the large printing block numbers on the drawers. If the desk drawers don't solve your office storage issues, there is a matching cabinet available separately for £250.

The desk costs £550 from Graham and Green.
