1980s Puma TT Super CC trainers reissued in two shades

A couple of new colour options for a 1980 cult classic, the Puma TT Super CC trainers.

'TT' stands for table tennis, because that's exactly what these shoes were designed for back in 1980. These days, they're just a good lightweight trainer, a halfway between a plimsoll and a heavier sports shoe.

Two colour options, both of which are pictured here and both with suede and mesh uppers, a contrast stripe, gum sole and a slim silhouette. 'Highly limited' numbers on both, with each style selling for £49.

60s Spot Dress by Yumi

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 10:36 AM PDT

Yumi60sspot

While we most often associate polka dots with 50s design nowadays, their use in 20th century fashion was by no means limited to that one decade. Showing a keen eye for crossover sixties style, this 60s Spot Dress by Yumi uses the spot print in a more modern style.

The print isn't the only retro style point, with the inclusion of a contrasting peter pan collar adding an unmistakeably mid-sixties appeal. The fifties circle skirt is given a decade-later update too, with a shorter and more daring hemline.

It's available now from New Look, exclusively online for £39.99.

Dory Cross Body Bag by D&G

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 10:31 AM PDT

Doribag

Designer handbags are a purchase that's nigh on impossible for most of us to justify, with styles that age with the seasons. It's easier to justify the huge price tag when the looks are timeless, however, which could be argued for the Dory Cross Body Bag by D&G.

Shown here is the medium version, in an unmistakeably 60s/ 70s influenced shade of orange leather. The design of the bag merges practicality with simplistic, yet stunning looks. The top handle and cross-body strap both come equipped with bright silver hardware, while the interior is deceptively roomy for such a delicate handbag.

It's available online from My Wardrobe for £685.

Chopping boards are rarely exciting things, but this Gamepad Chopping Board by Joseph Joseph should brighten up your kitchen when not in use.

But when it is in use, well, it's a practical item too. The board has non-slip rubber feet, as well as toughened glass and a hygienic, odour and stain-resistant work surface. Oh yes, it has that design too, mimicking the classic Nintendo NES gamepad.

For sale: 1960s Eric Lyons-designed Span House in Templemere, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 05:31 AM PDT

Temple1

Span Houses have been mentioned here in the past. it was a company that built housing estates in the UK between 1948 and 1984 with an eye on good design and good surroundings. This Eric Lyons-designed Span House on the Templemere, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey is a great example.

Temple3

You've probably gathered that this is a 1960s property from the images, with this house not just having the early '60s exterior, it also has a stylised 1960s-style interior too, which is a definite selling point. It sits well within the original layout, designed to maximise the light and with some lovely views out of the windows too.

Temple4

The layout is fairly simple, with the ground floor offering up a hall, open plan living room and kitchen, while the first floor has three bedrooms and a bathroom. Check out those images (there's more on the site) and if you like it, the house is available for around £365,000.

eBay watch: 1950s Vauxhall Cresta car

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 03:58 AM PDT

Cresta1

Looking for the vehicle to go with your 1950s look? Well, this 1955 Vauxhall Cresta could be just the thing.

Very much of its time, the Cresta on offer here has 68,000 on the clock, with the engine doing 5,000 miles since a rebuild. It was also on the end of a repaint eight years back, which apparently is now showing 'some signs of age', so a bit of a project for you.

Cresta2

Aside from that, there is the original buff log book, genuine whitewall tyres and chrome that's a mix of new and old stock. £3,500 is the price.

Charley Harper 2012 Mini Wall Calendar

Charley-harper-2012-mini-wall-calendar
Whilst I'm loathe to start mentioning Christmas products just yet, I don't think there is anything wrong in looking at 2012 calendars this early. The first contender for next year's calendar is the Charley Harper 2012 Mini Wall Calendar.

The calendar features Harper's wildlife illustrations in his colourful midcentury style, including Coniferous Cardinal, Arctic Circle, Squirrel in a Squall, Zoo Babies, and Flamingo-A-Go-Go. It will certainly go some way to cheering up a boring office space. It measures 7 inches by 7 inches, opening out to 7 by 14.

It cost £5.99 from Hus and Hem.

Postmodernism Events at V&A

Designing_decades_1_jpg_290x193_crop_q85
The current Postmodernism exhibition at the V&A is bound to be worth a look, but its the series of accompanying events that have really piqued my interest.

There are various events between October and December, with these being my highlights. The theme of the study day on 15 October is Designing the Decades: The 1980s. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore innovations in architecture, product design and fashion during this decade of ironic self awareness, ambiguity, irony and kitsch. On 29 October, there is Past, Present and Future: 25 Years of Wallpaper. Organised by the Wallpaper History Society, the event looks at how wallpaper is no longer seen as a mere backdrop, but is a hot topic for style commentators and historians. You can build your own retro game on 5 November at the Retro Gaming course, where you will create LED lighting patterns from scratch.

For more information, visit the V&A website.

Glide Snake-Effect Mary Janes from Topshop

If you're looking for that perfect pair of shoes to see you through autumn and into the winter party season then look no further than these Snake Effect Mary Janes from Topshop.

This classic style is a perennial retro favourite thanks to the combination of the rounded toe and ankle strap, but the vertiginous 4.5 inch block heel distinguishes this shoe from more demure takes on the Mary Jane. The subtle burgundy snake-effect leather makes these shoes almost as versatile as a plain black pair and they'd work as well with jeans as they would with a leather pencil skirt

They are 100% leather and cost £65 from Topshop.

Kista Folk-style Range from Paperchase

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 02:30 AM PDT

00488914_mediu If you were a fan of the Scandinavian-influenced Folklore Enamel range featured in these pages earlier this year, you might also appreciate the new Kista collection from Paperchase.

The designs are simple with a definite folk influence. A simple black circular motif of birds and flowers is accented with a colouful contrasting background which adorns a range of items including homewares like the doormat pictured above, and the more usual Paperchase fare such as bags, stationery and iphone cases.

Prices range from £1.75 to £29.75 and you can find the range in store or check it out online here.
