Sgt Pepper-style Mr Men 40th anniversary print by Roger and Adam Hargreaves Posted: 24 Oct 2011 08:03 AM PDT The Mr Men are celebrating a significant milestone, with this Sgt Pepper-style Mr Men 40th anniversary print by Roger and Adam Hargreaves produced to commemorative the much-loved characters's longevity. There are two prints available, with one significant difference. Go for the premium fine art edition and you get all the characters created since 1971 in that Beatles-like line-up, along with an unseen shot of creator Roger Hargreaves amongst them all. The shot was originally black and white, but has been coloured to fit in with the image. It's a giclee print on paper, limited to 240, sized at 24 x 26 inches and sold with a certificate of authenticity and a signature from Adam Hargreaves.Alternatively, the standard version is smaller at 18 x 18 inches, in an edition of 400 and missing Roger Hargreaves from the line-up. Prices are very different too. The standard print sells unframed for £50, while the premium version is yours for £295. Find out more at the Art You Grew Up With website |
For sale: Apartment in the 1950s grade II-listed Parkleys development, Richmond, south west London Posted: 24 Oct 2011 06:23 AM PDT Not just a modernist-inspired building, this 1950s two-bedroomed apartment in the Parkleys development in Richmond, south west London is also grade II-listed. Why? Well, Parkleys was the first Span development by Eric Lyons, buildings we have featured many times on this site which mixed good design and surroundings with affordable asking prices from the '50s to the '70s. All of the developments came with a hint of modernism too, perhaps down to the experience Lyons gained by working with Walter Gropius in his formative years. This first Span building dates to 1955 and still looks the part today, especially if you ignore the clutter in the images and want a manageable period place. This particular apartment is on the first (top) floor, with an 'attractive leafy aspect', a main reception, a second reception and kitchen (with in-built oven and hob), a bathroom with white suite, a main bedroom with built-in cupboards ands a second bedroom, also with built-in wardrobes. There's also a shared exterior store/drying cupboard. |

Telephone Box Print by Annemarie Wright Posted: 24 Oct 2011 04:40 AM PDT
The somewhat hazy appearance of the illustration is because it is actually made up of handwritten text. The text is about the iconic the British telephone box. The print is limited to 100 copies with each being signed by the artist (who you would have thought would never want write anything again having created this!). There is also a similar design for the London bus. The print costs £295 framed from Pedlars. |

Designed by Julie Marabelle, the wallpaper shows a whimsical side of Paris on a Sunday. The Eiffel Tower is there, alongside Paris' elegant Haussmann buildings and families out for a walk. Just like most London designs, this too seems to focus on a nostalgic view of the city that is far removed from the modern reality - but is so much the better for it. It is available in either blue/red or silver/yellow and would be ideal for a child's room. It costs £45 per roll from the Famille Summerbelle website. |
Abram Games bookend by Susan Bradley Posted: 24 Oct 2011 03:24 AM PDT We've featured Susan Bradley's London icon bookends before (and even her letter rack). Here's a slightly more unusual subject matter for her designs: an Abram Games bookend. Yes, it's a bookend featuring Abram Games's famous emblem he designed for the 1951 Festival of Britain, and which has been frequently seen this year as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations. It's one of two new booksends especially commissioned by the Southbank Centre from Bradley, with the other design featuring another product of the Festival of Britain: the Royal Festival Hall. The bookends cost £20. Buy them from the Southbank Centre |

In this case, it's specifically the 1950s, with its curvy back and arms and dark wooden tapered legs. There's a nice contemporary twist on the look too, with bright pink buttons used on the back in contrast to the gray upholstery. There's even a matching chair, should you so desire one. Available as a two-seater for £599, or a three-seater for £699. The chair will cost you £399. See them at House of Fraser |
