For something a little less ordinary, this Mustard Frill Collar Shirt from Miss Selfridge has a nice hint of sixties cool. The basic shirt shape is given some added flair with a bell sleeve that tapers at the cuffs, along with accentuated shoulders to create a striking silhouette. eBay watch: Artemide Eclisse 1960s table lamp by Vico Magistretti Posted: 02 Nov 2011 09:51 AM PDT We have featured this in reissued form on the site in the past, but if you want a cheaper version of the space age classic, there's an Artemide Eclisse table lamp by Vico Magistretti on eBay right now. It is a classic too, a miniature desk, table or bedside lamp, dating back to 1967, with the amount of light offered controlled by moving the shade to expose more of the lamp. This example in orange is said to be from the early 1970s and is in 'perfect working order' and 'excellent' condition. There are said to be 'tiny losses' to the orange lacquer on the back, but nothing significant. The price right now is £7.50, compared to a reissue for around £100. Find out more at the eBay website |
Sandberg's Engla and Elliot wallpaper collection Posted: 02 Nov 2011 06:28 AM PDT More wallpapers to brighten your walls - this time courtesy of Sandberg's Engla and Elliot wallpaper collection. The collection is meant for kids rooms (though some of them could easily spill over into grown-ups taste too) and is full of gentle '50s inspired designs. The papers delicately illustrate subject matter such as bird cages, townscapes and alphabets, though our favourite has to be the musical motifs of the Anders wallpaper which is shown above. Each paper costs £45 a roll. See the range online |
Posted: 02 Nov 2011 04:36 AM PDT In a few weeks time, you'll be amongst the crowds in your local B&Q trying to find a replacement set of Christmas lights for the ones that wouldn't work when you dragged them out of the loft this year. I bet the ones you get aren't as cool as these Snoopy LED Christmas lights. Yes, the cartoon dog and everyone's favourite Peanuts character appears in a Santa hat for this set of lights. In total, there are 20 multicoloured LED lights, all battery powered you can string them pretty much anywhere - tree, mantelpiece, office desk, bed - the choice is yours. You'll need 2x AA batteries to power the lights, which will run for a length of around 123cm and sell for £21.99. Audrey newspaper cushion from F&F home at Tesco Posted: 02 Nov 2011 04:28 AM PDT Tesco isn't necessarily the first place you'd think of for home accessories but if you want a piece of cheap chic, check out the Audrey newspaper cushion from their F&F home range. As you might have deduced from the name, this cushion is named in honour of Audrey Hepburn. Rather than reproduce the iconic Breakfast at Tiffany's image, they've gone for something else - namely a retro newspaper print that celebrates the glamour of the film star. The cushion is made from polyester, so I'm not convinced it's something Ms. Hepburn would have approved of. Nevertheless, there's no denying the cheap part of the chic: the cushion costs just £9. The print has been created by pixeldust and recreates a screen from the iconic video game. The print is available on a variety materials including quilting weight, organic cotton sateen and cotton silk, so you can use it to make almost anything – although I would have thought cushions would be the most obvious use for it with the idea of a Pacman dress being a step too far for even the biggest retro gaming fans. Prices vary according to the material type – visit Spoonflower for full details. |
