Vintage and Retro Swishing Event in Brighton Posted: 03 Nov 2011 12:03 PM PDT Vintage and retro bargain hunters in the south should make sure they keep 27th November free for the first Vintage and Retro Swishing event in Brighton. The monthly clothes swapping extravaganza, run by the very clever ladies at My Swish, allows savvy rummagers to pick up some new additions to their wardrobe absolutely free. In this, their first vintage & retro themed event, swishers are asked to bring along 1 to 15 items of clothing, shoes or accessories, either vintage or modern retro styled, which they can then swap for other people's pre-loved goodies. A purse and planet friendly way to add to your retro clobber collection. Vintage teas from Roses All Over and goody bags are included for those who book in advance. The Vintage and Retro Swishing event is being held on 27th November at the Blind Tiger Club in Brighton city centre. Tickets are £5 in advance. See the website for more details. |
eBay watch: 1970s twin cam Lotus Europa car Posted: 03 Nov 2011 09:45 AM PDT I know, not the cheapest thing we've featured on the site, but this 1970s twin cam Lotus Europa car really did draw a gasp from us when we saw it up for auction. The car is a classic, as distinctive in looks today as it did when it launched in 1966 (although this model is from 1971). It's described by the seller as 'the first mass production, mid-engine road car', which was 'based on a prototype built to compete for a Ford contract to build a LeMans race car in the early 1960s'.Features include four-wheel independent suspension and in this early '70s model and a 126bhp Lotus/Ford 'Big Valve' Twin Cam 1,558cc unit that was/is good for 0–60 in seven seconds with a top speed of 125mph. Mileage on this model is just under 49,000, with the car just being on the receiving end of a full service and a fairly recent set of new tyres. |

The Danish website boosts Scandinavia's largest collection of retro wallpaper. The collection was started from stock bought from an ironmonger in London, who didn't appreciate the value of what he had stored in his basement. If you are in Copenhagen, you can visit the Retro Villa shop, but you can also browse through the wallpaper online, with the collection helpfully organised by colour and type of print. The wallpaper is priced at either 500DK (around £59) for a roll or 100DK (about £12) per metre, with another 195DK for shipping. Visit Retro Villa to browse the whole collection. |

Tasteful decorations are hard to come by, but you can trust our Scandinavian friends to produce something you'd be proud to have your house at any time of the year. The snowflake decorations are available in either white paper or a wood veneer finish, which is the option I'd pick. There are three sizes available: Small 20cm (£4.95), Medium 30cm (£8.95) and Large 45cm (£13.95). The white versions cost a pound more in each case. Buy them online from Hus and Hem. |
