For sale: 1960s Norman Starrett-designed townhouse in Chislehurst, Kent

We actually featured one of these in renovated condition last year, but this 1960s Norman Starrett-designed townhouse in Chislehurst, Kent is very much as it was originally. In fact, it looks hardly touched.

Starrett designed this and 18 other similar houses in 1962. Known as the H2 Design, they are arranged in small staggered groups for privacy. This one faces south, so plenty of natural light, assisted by the full-height windows and sliding balcony doors. Outside, there's also a south-facing garden and patio, along with some off-street parking and an integrated garage.

But inside, as you can see, it needs some work. But if you are a fan of the 1960s, you'll probably want to keep some of those period features, as well as that exposed staircase. Specifically, the house is laid out over three floors and offers four bedrooms (with balconies and fitted wardrobes), two bathrooms, an open-plan living room (incorporating the kitchen) and a utility room.

So some work required and still a £475,000 asking price. However, the updated one was up for £530,000, so it still might be a decent buy.

eBay watch: 1950s midcentury sewing box

Posted: 04 Nov 2011 07:02 AM PDT

Mid_sewing

Its specific purpose is for sewing, although it might work as a side table or as a general storage unit. But we'll stick with the description of 1950s midcentury sewing box for this item, which is currently up for auction.

Likely 1950s, possibly early 1960s, but obviously of that general era, with a design that uses three shades of wood, those angled legs and a good amount of storage. Specifically, that's two drawers in each side, a lid with spool holders integrated and a central storage area.

Lots of images on the site, should you want a closer look, with condition described as 'excellent' with only the 'slightest' wear. Right now, the auction price is £9.
