What you need to know from the world of Electric Vehicles Nope, you haven't seen this before, but you're getting it because you subscribe to one of our other email newsletters and we thought you might be interested in it. If not, no worries, you won't see it again. Sign up for our new weekly EV newsletter and stay plugged in It's been more than 20 years since the final EV1 rolled off the line at General Motors' boutique assembly plant, the Lansing Craft Centre. A few years later all but a handful of 1100 or so produced found their final resting place in the maw of a car crusher. At the turn of the millennium, public interest in electric vehicles just wasn't there yet. Neither, frankly, was the technology. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV goes on sale next fall. Today, EV tech has long since passed the tipping point of novelty. Almost every major automaker has a fully electric vehicle in its portfolio or on its way, and an entire industry of electrified upstarts has charged onto the scene. On the infrastructure side, charging networks now span the continents, and consumer interest in EVs is at an all-time high. We've been here, documenting and analyzing the evolution of the technology, testing and reviewing the vehicles and keeping consumers and enthusiasts informed along the way. This newsletter, State of Charge, continues that mission with an up-to-date look at the state of the electric-vehicle world, from the most trusted sources of automotive news, reviews, and analysis: the editorial teams of Car and Driver, Road & Track, and Autoweek. If keeping up on EV news and understanding the context of the products and industry is important to you, our weekly newsletter is your new must-read. We were still getting over the bizarre reveal of the polarizing 2022 Tesla Cybertruck when 2020 crept up on us like a deranged clown at a birthday party that at first seems okay but then gets weirder and weirder as the day progresses. During the cavalcade of horrors that was 2020, the electrified march of progress continued, albeit a bit slowed by the global pandemic. An electric car on the streets won't surprise anyone these days, but the next biggest test for EVs will be pickup trucks. The segment is currently empty, but in the next two years it's about to get filled up with more than half a dozen competitors. Just who are the contestants? We've rounded up all of them here.
