Bloom Box 60 Minutes Video | Bloom Energy Talks To CBS About Powering The Future

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 07:03 AM PDT

While the last few decades have brought us personal, portable technology, the means to power all these devices still requires being connected to the grid.

Over 100 Silicon Valley startups are working on ways to change this, developing power sources designed to provide an inexpensive, clean way of generating our power needs. Bloom Energy is one of these startups.

Bloom Energy has created the Bloom Box, an all-in-one mini power station which could provide us with our energy needs for the future. CBS’ 60 Minutes recently got the inside scoop.

The Bloom Box isn’t without its controversy, mainly because it still requires a fossil fuel to work. Although natural gas is better than other fossil fuels, it’s still a finite resource and so any technology using it is only a step in the right direction rather than being the ultimate solution to the energy crisis.

‘Temple Grandin’ Movie Preview (Video) | Behind The 5X Emmy-Winning Film

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 09:55 PM PDT

The HBO movie Temple Grandin recently won 5 Emmys, so naturally, I had to find out why. After all, how interesting could a ‘movie about killing cows’ be?

Temple Grandin, as it turns out, is actually about an autistic woman who grows up to be a doctor and researcher for animal behavior. The above video goes more in-depth with the entire cast.

I’ve been a fan of Claire Danes since she was a teenager in “My So-Called Life” and I have to applaud her for pulling off such a difficult role. She definitely deserves the “Best Actress” award.

As for the real-life Temple Grandin, I believe the Executive Producer put it best when she said, “She not only changed the face of the livestock industry, but she changed the face of Autism.”

Amazing Machine Turns Garbage Into Oil (Video) | Japanese Inventor Reveals Trash Solution

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 09:04 PM PDT

Every year Americans consume about 10.5 million tons of plastic and only recycle about 1-2% of it. Since the typical milk jug takes about 1 million years to decompose, nearly every single piece of plastic that was ever made still exists today…

Unless, of course, you’re talking about the ones that have been converted into oil with this machine.

Yesterday’s science fiction has officially become today’s reality. This Japanese invention could really change the world if it’s technology was used properly.

For those wondering if the machine “takes up too much energy” I have a very practical solution- simply use the oil that the it generates to power it! Hopefully the Japanese government will have the sense to fund this invention.

Funny August Fail Montage Video | Biggest Failures of the Month

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 05:09 PM PDT

At any given month, there’s a whole lot of stupid going on. This video brings it all together, reminding us of the idiocy that was the month of August.

You’ll remember many of these clips, including the bird flipping weatherman and the distraught birthday girl. But as the video clocks in at around 7 minutes 30, there’s sure to be some bits you missed when they were doing the viral rounds.

As with any video of this length, it won't all tickle your fancy. Many of these moments are the kind that fans of Funniest Home Videos lap up: stupid people doing stupid things without protective gear. But there’s enough variety here that you’re bound to get a giggle out of something.

Funny Dog Watching TV Video | British Bulldog Relaxing While Family Guy Is On Telly

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 12:40 PM PDT

Family Guy is a genius show. Why? For starters it features a talking dog who acts as if he’s human. I mean, how ludicrous is that? It could never happen in real-life, obviously…

This video shows a British bulldog chillaxing on front of the TV as if he’s human and owns the house. Maybe he does, as people have left properties to their pets in the past.

Although this is funny, it’s also freaky. The dog is actually watching the telly, not just looking at the screen but watching what’s happening. He’s also got the remote control in front of him ready to change channels quickly, and has his paw on the arm of the chair.

All that’s missing is a bottle of beer in his paw. Then again maybe the dog’s owner has weaned him off the beer because his consumption was getting out of hand. Damn alcoholic dogs; they’re all the rage these days.
