eBay watch: 1970s Colani UFO ceiling light in orange Posted: 05 Apr 2011 12:26 PM PDT We did feature one of these back in 2010, but we've not seen a Colani UFO ceiling light in orange before. |
French Connection Venetta Drape Jumpsuit Posted: 05 Apr 2011 10:35 AM PDT Beautifully cut from silver satin the jumpsuit has a great shape with a wrap-over detail at the bust, cummerband-style waistband and kimono sleeves that give way to a sleek, tailored leg shape. It's a fabulous single piece that creates head to toe glamour and needs nothing in the way of accessories but a dash of red lipstick and your favourite pair of sky-scraper heels. The jumpsuit costs £120 from French Connection - check it out online here |
Lace Babydoll Dress from Dorothy Perkins Posted: 05 Apr 2011 10:29 AM PDT Thanks to the eighties revival of recent years, lace has made its way back into the mainstream of fashion. It's finally being used for a wider variety of looks, delving further into fashion history for inspiration to the 1960s with this Lace Babydoll Dress from Dorothy Perkins. The dress has an instantly early sixties cut, with three quarter sleeves, a short full skirt and high neckline creating a cutesy retro silhouette that was found on both sides of the pond at the time. The daisy print lace adds a textural edge to the simple cut, finished in a shade of red that's just daring enough to stop this being too girlish. It's available now from Dorothy Perkins for £42. |
Tooled Leather Bag from Wallis Posted: 05 Apr 2011 10:17 AM PDT Cross body bags have been a mainstay in women's fashion for decades, taking original inspiration from military clothing into the mainstream. Each era has added its own take to the style, with seventies influence shown in this Tooled Leather Bag from Wallis. Made from a deep brown shade of 100% leather, the tooling detail adds the retro appeal to this satchel style. The punched design showcases the seventies' love of Eastern influence, tapping into the post-sixties folk look to create a stylish and durable accessory for everyday use. It's available now from Wallis for £38. |
Rotaliana BPL Light by Camilla Diedrich Posted: 05 Apr 2011 08:29 AM PDT The globe has been hand woven from white polyester, which has been knotted wooden casts and put in a steam oven, to create the little bubble effect. It is available in two sizes, 39cm in diameter (£606) or 65cm (£1024). Buy it online at Panik Design. |
Posted: 05 Apr 2011 08:07 AM PDT Perhaps some of the Maribowl's continued popularity is that it works as either a decorative item or a functional serving bowl – I'm picturing it filled with a huge ice cream sundae. It is available in a variety of different colours with the price being dependent on how difficult it to manufacture glass in that colour, red being the most tricky pigment to use. Prices range from £16 for smaller Maribowls in shades of blue, green and grey through to £49 for a deep red colour, with shades of yellow, orange and brown priced somewhere in between, at Hus and Hem. |
Posted: 05 Apr 2011 07:40 AM PDT The Royal Wedding Biscuit Tin is tastefully illustrated with a vintage-style design which would make a very nice souvenir of the occasion but better than that, the tin is full of delicious vanilla biscuits in a range of wedding-themed designs. Pick from the royal coach, his and hers crowns or an elaborate three-tiered wedding cake and munch your way through this historic event. The tin costs £38.50 and contains up to 16 biscuits. Find out more from Biscuiteers. |
John Lewis midcentury-style Bump Chair Posted: 05 Apr 2011 05:36 AM PDT Strange name, but this John Lewis Bump Chair has a familiar midcentury shape to it. |
Kuppila tea towel from Polkka Jam Posted: 05 Apr 2011 04:51 AM PDT Polkka Jam is the work of a Finnish duo and this design is typical of their work. It features patterned and colourful kitchenware with more than a little touch of retro style. Some of their other designs feature stacked tea cups and even a decorative tea urn. In fact, you're bound to find something that's just your cup of tea. The tea towel costs 16.50 Euros. Buy it from Finnish Design Shop |
Retro water glasses from Rockett St George Posted: 05 Apr 2011 04:43 AM PDT Each glass is decorated with an illustration of a label featuring an old-fashioned advertisement for water. There's also the nice touch of the bottle-style bottom to each glass, further adding to the retro feel. Simple and easy, a set of three glasses costs £12. See them online |
