Chip Fork Chair by Tim Styles

Posted: 12 Jun 2011 12:10 PM PDT

Chip

Icon is probably talking up a little too much, but there's denying that the wooden chip fork is very much a part of our heritage, especially when it comes to a day at the seaside. If you love it more than most, you might like to celebrate it with the Chip Fork Chair by Tim Styles.

Yes, it's a chair shaped like a two-pronged chip fork, with designer Tim Styles aiming to create a chair that makes people smile. If it doesn't do that, it'll get them talking and possibly questioning your sanity. Each chair is made to order and made of birch ply, with the finished item waxed to protect your investment.

Want one? It costs a bit more than your average fish supper. £395 to be precise.

eBay watch: Dieter Rams-designed 1960s Braun SK6 audio system

Posted: 12 Jun 2011 11:38 AM PDT

Braun

An iconic design and still a practical piece of kit 50 years after it was designed - the Dieter Rams-designed 1960s Braun SK6 audio system, which is on eBay right now.

Rams designed this back in 1960, a mix of white metal, wood and plexiglass, not to mention style and modernist inspiration. This would sit effortlessly in most houses. Functionality? It plays 33, 45 and 78rpm records, as well as offering up radio reception (LW, MW and FM). There's the option of a separate speaker for stereo, but you'll have to buy that separately.

The unit is in 'excellent' condition, thanks to a restoration by the current owner. But you'll have to check those electrics, just to be safe. The bid price is £399 right now, or there's a 'buy it now' of £560.

For sale: Five-bedroomed 1930s art deco property in Bexleyheath, Kent

Posted: 12 Jun 2011 11:12 AM PDT

Bex1

If you like your art deco mixed with a touch of modern, you might be the ideal customer for this five-bedroomed 1930s art deco property in Bexleyheath, Kent.

Designed by an unnamed Indian architect in the 1930s, the house has undergone extensive modernisation in the last couple of years, although it has been kind to the original design. Expect porcelain flooring, oak doors, high quality bathroom fittings, LED lighting and a very modern kitchen, but with the shape very much respected and neat touches like vintage radiators installed, it's still an art deco home at its heart.

Bex2

In terms of room breakdown, there's an entrance hall, ground floor toilet, dining room, lounge, breakfast room, those five bedrooms (including an observatory bedroom with roof terrace access), bathroom, second toilet, the roof terrace and an en-suite bathroom. If that's not enough, there's also a huge art deco-style garage with electric shutters and plenty of windows, plus views across a nearby lake.

Bex3

Not the cheapest house on the market at £950,000, but it was never going to be anything less with all that work.
