Woodland Dolls from Lapin & Me Posted: 31 Aug 2011 08:45 AM PDT According to Lapin & Me these Woodland Dolls are going like hot cakes - and it's not hard to see why. They are reproductions of retro vintage dolls sourced in Japan and have a wonderful kitsch cutesiness to them. The yellow doll featured above is currently out of stock with more due in early September, but there's an equally cute orange version which is available right now. The dolls stand 20cm high and have an apple-cheeked innocence a world away from the Bratz and Barbies of today. They cost £12.95 each from Lapin & Me here. |
eBay watch: 1960s three-wheeled Berkeley T60 sports car Posted: 31 Aug 2011 08:41 AM PDT It's a snapshot in time, as the three-wheeled Berkeley T60 sports car was only produced in 1960, the company making them going under at the end of that year. But there's one on eBay right now. Yes, a three-wheeler. I suspect you are thinking something more like the Reliant Robin, but this is a very different proposition, with the single wheel at the back and an altogether more sporty look. Although you could (and presumably still can) drive one with just a motorcycle licence. Check that out first though. This T60 is a front-wheel drive car, with a rather modest 328cc engine and four front gears, plus one reverse. This one has been renovated quite considerably, completely restored three years ago. New coils, points and plugs too, which means it 'starts first time every time'. |
Midcentury-style Miss Behaving sofa at Sofa Workshop Posted: 31 Aug 2011 08:05 AM PDT Back in the dim and distant past (or back in 2008 to be more precise) we featured the midcentury-style Miss Behaving armchair at Sofa Workshop. Well, now there's a bigger version - known, as you mint guess, as the Miss Behaving sofa. Don't let that pink colour sway you, this period gem is available in a choice of 2,200 different fabrics, so if you want something a little less bold (or indeed, pink), then that's just fine. You can also choose the colour of those '50s-style angled legs too. One thing is consistent though - those wonderful curves on the arms and seat that really make the design of this two-seater.A couple of discounts on this right now, meaning you can get it for £1,413, down from a full price of £1,964. That armchair is still available too, from £898. Find out more at the Sofa Workshop website |
London Transport Museum and Squint Collaboration Posted: 31 Aug 2011 07:55 AM PDT Both the London Transport Museum and upholsterer Squint Limited have featured in these pages before. Now they have come together to collaborate on a range of bespoke modern furniture that draws on the rich design heritage of the museum's collection. Squint create traditional furniture upholstered in a patchwork of modern and vintage fabrics. Posted: 31 Aug 2011 05:19 AM PDT Though mod look fashion may be the sixties inspiration which dominates our high streets, there's a huge amount of inspiration available from across the Atlantic from the decade. This Leopard Coat from ASOS is ideal for tapping into that grittier New York style, exemplified by Andy Warhol's factory girls. The coat has a chic A-line cut, creating the androgynous silhouette favoured at the time, while slimline sleeves and a short hemline create a feminine contrast. The addition of a high faux fur collar, along with the dark leopard print, add that trashy glamour that made the likes of Edie Sedgwick lasting style icons. It's available now from ASOS for £90. |
Feather Floppy Hat from River Island Posted: 31 Aug 2011 05:18 AM PDT Well chosen accessories can be the most effective, and most affordable, way to transform any outfit into an instant retro ensemble. This Feather Detail Floppy Hat from River Island can't fail to add some vintage credentials, inspired by the crossover between sixties and seventies fashion. The large brimmed hat is made from 100% wool, allowing it to retain that relaxed structure that is so iconic. With a feather detailed band, there's a nod to hippy folk style, while the burnt orange shade has an unmistakeable late sixties feel to it. Get yours from River Island now for £25. |
Posted: 31 Aug 2011 05:15 AM PDT The A3-sized design features a collage of sweets taken from old comics. Perhaps by the nature of the comics he's used, lots of the brands illustrated are American: M&Ms, Reeses and Oreos for starters. It all helps to add to the British Pop art feel of the print, though Pop that's been filtered through a slightly more nostalgic viewpoint. Limited to an edition of 100, the print costs £20. Horrockses Bedlinen range launches Posted: 31 Aug 2011 03:22 AM PDT Horrockses Fashions were best known for their floral dress designs in the 1940s and 1950s label and have cropped up a few time on this blog: both because of the exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum last year, and the range of products inspired by the label available from the V&A. Some of their best loved patterns are now being revived on bedlinens. There are eight designs in their initial range, including the colourful Martha pictured which is based on an original design by Pat Albeck. Like the original dresses, the bedlinen is noticeable for its use of pattern and also because it apparently uses the finest level of cotton. Also worth looking at are the cushions, based on the company's 1950s advertising imagery. Pillowcases cost £12, while £60 will buy you a double duvet cover. Individual cushions are available for prices starting at £30. See the range online |
Joseph Joseph Citrus Mix Tape Chopping Board Posted: 31 Aug 2011 03:14 AM PDT The toughened glass board features a picture of a cassette with lemons and limes and the words "Citrus Mix" on the label. What citrus themed music could fill a 60 minute tape has had me thinking all morning and so far all I've got is REM's Orange Crush, Led Zeppelin's The Lemon Song and perhaps something by The Lemonheads. But back to the chopping board - it measures 30cm by 20cm, is hygienic, stain resistant and has non-slip feet, so it is practical as well. It costs £14 from Urban Outfitters. |
