Doctor Who City of Death action figure set announced |
Just announced from Character Options comes a deluxe box set of action figures based on the 1979 adventure 'City of Death.'
Set in contemporary Paris, the story made full use of the mad inventiveness of script editor Douglas Adams, fan favorite script writer David Fisher (Stones of Blood, Androids of Tara, Creature from the Pit and the Leisure Hive) and producer Graham Williams. An innovative and brilliant script that combined humor, drama and fantasy elements in a clever script revolving around a stranded alien, fractured time and the theft of the Mona Lisa, City of Death is one of the most beloved of Doctor Who adventures.
The set consists of Tom Baker as the Doctor dressed in a (finally) screen accurate longer scarf and the impeccable Julian Glover as the stylish and sinister Count Scarlioni. In the televised story, Scarlioni is at one point revealed in his true form, a hideous (and hilarious) green monster. Glover, who had appeared previously in Doctor Who as King Richard in the William Hartnell story the Crusade, refused to film the scene as it was just too goofy, calling for a stand-in. Julian Glover is one of the most amazing actors of our time, having appeared in everything from Star Wars to Indiana Jones, Blakes 7 and James Bond films. The action figure comes with a swap out alternate head to recreate the moment. I have always loved the alien's face as it makes for the ideal Halloween costume. A styling leisure suit, silly string and a googly eye and you're done!
The Doctor Who City of Death set can be pre-ordered from Forbidden Planet in the UK and Mike's Comics in the US.
