Mouse Fitness TV Advert Video | How To Sell Seriously Strong Mature Cheddar Cheese

Posted: 23 Feb 2010 11:06 AM PST

Adverts can be divided into two distinct categories – those that just do the job, and those that inspire and entertain. While I’m sure the former sells products and services, it’s the latter that get remembered and shared around the Web.

And this ‘Mouse Fitness’ ad is no exception. It’s an advert for Seriously Strong cheddar cheese, and it’s brilliantly pitched. The music is good, the set-up is great, and the twist ending is fantastic.

We get to see a supposedly ordinary mouse emerge from his hole in the wall, and wander over to a piece of cheese in a mousetrap. A soundtrack to the mouse’s life playing in the background all the while.

The inevitable happens. But this is no ordinary cheese, and it means the mouse can defy logic and the metal bar which is sprung across his neck. And to the Rocky theme tune the mouse turns the intended death trap into nothing more than a quick workout. Genius.

Weasel Stomping Day Official Music Video | Weird Al Yankovic Celebrates New Holiday

Posted: 23 Feb 2010 06:03 AM PST

You’ve gotta love Weird Al Yankovic. He’s been mocking everyone and everything for decades now, and he still hasn’t lost his cutting-edge appeal or acerbic sense of humor.

This is the official music video for Weasel Stomping Day, a song from the critically-acclaimed Straight Outta Lynwood from 2006. And both the song and video are very funny.

The song tells the story of a fictitious holiday which takes place on June 31 every year (check your calendars, it doesn’t exist), when everyone dons boots and viking helmets and stomps on weasels for no other reason than it’s fun.

The video was made by and for Robot Chicken, Seth Green’s anarchic animated show, and it sums the song up very well. It appeared during the 12th episode of the second season of The Munnery, just prior to the album’s release.

Amazing Hydroplaning Dolphins (Video) | You’ve Never Seen Fishing Like This

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 08:50 PM PST

I don’t know whether to call this evolution or adaptation. Regardless of the technical term, this fishing technique is pretty amazing.

This witty pack of dolphins off the coast of Australia hydroplane to catch fish that would otherwise be impossible to get.

Normally, when most fish are about to get eaten by a dolphin, they swim into shallow water near the coast. Since the dolphins are much larger, they normally have no chance at getting them.

These Australian dolphins, on the other hand, are much smarter than the average ones and have figured out that building up speed and skimming on the shallow surface can have great rewards.

I’d hate to be the one dolphin that get’s stuck though.

Watch California Introduce Soda Tax (News Video) | Drinking Pop the New Sin

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 04:26 PM PST

Drinking soda could be the latest new ’sin tax’ when it comes to people living in California. But how are Californians taking it?

No matter which way you go, you’re going to have people who argue with you. Even so, I am firmly saying a big kudos to California!

Obesity is a problem, and the government has been able to do very little about it. What recourse to they have but to put sugary snacks under the ’sin tax’ category?

I do wish we could track where the taxes go and what they get put toward, but that’s another part of the argument.

Watch Nastia Liukin on ‘Good Friend’ Evan Lysacek (News Video) | Hot Olympic Gymnast has a Boyfriend

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 03:58 PM PST

Nastia Liukin talks about the Olympics and her “good friend” Evan Lysacek, but is that really the best description of their relationship?

The word spreading around the internet this morning is that the figure skater and the gymnast are now confirming they are a couple, having said that they met at the Skating and Gymnastics Spectacular in fall 2008 to People magazine.

Well, athletes are bound to meet when they are both involved in such major competitions like the Olympics. They certainly aren’t the first and won’t be the last.

With such a public ‘outing’ of their relationship, hopefully they will take all the media attention in stride.

Celebrities Star in Vampire Weekend Music Video | “Giving Up The Gun” Featuring Jake Jake Gyllenhaal, RZA, Joe Jonas and More

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 02:53 PM PST

The music video for Vampire Weekend's new track “Giving Up The Gun” is a star-studded affair, with the ever-gorgeous Jake Gyllenhaal, Wu-Tang Clan legend RZA, and teen heartthrob Joe Jonas all making cameos.

While the star power will no doubt attract interest, director Emmett Malloy has done his best to make this clip about more than mere celebrities. Lil Jon's turn as tennis guru and Jake Gyllenhaal’s surly alcoholic stint are genuinely funny. It’s clear that egos were checked at the door, as no one takes themselves too seriously.

Malloy, who’s also been behind clips from The White Stripes and Wolfmother, has definitely outdone himself here. Anyone for tennis?

New Credit Card Laws 2010 (Video) | Suze Orman Explains The Benefits

Posted: 22 Feb 2010 12:29 PM PST

The video above is from last year where Suze Orman explained the new credit card laws. She called them “too little, too late” and encouraged people to write their congressmen to speed up the date in which it would take effect.

As it turns out, a lot of people actually did, and the new laws go into effect 5 months ahead of schedule- today!

Unlike Suze, I had hope for these new laws when I first heard about them passing. The average credit card company is expected to cut their profit in half because of this and I’m all for lessening corporate greed. Besides the 4 laws explained in the video some other important laws that go into effect are:

    - Anyone under 21 must have a co-signer to activate a credit card or at least prove financial stability.
    - Interest rates can’t rise within the first year.
    - Credit card companies must notify you 3 weeks in advance before a payment is due.

Finally, the emerging generation has hope for financial security. The average college student graduates with $10,000 in credit card debt today, but this will obviously have a positive effect on that number. This is why I voted for Obama.
