Orange Midi Dress from Warehouse

Warehousemidi

While Warehouse celebrates 35 years' residence on the Great British High Street, they continue to bring us classic fashion at affordable prices. Looking backwards to their original seventies fare, this Orange Midi Dress from Warehouse oozes vintage appeal.

The capped sleeve and slashed neckline combine to accentuate the shoulders with subtlety, countering the flowing skirt to create an effortless seventies silhouette. The belted waist creates a feminine shape, while highlighting the loose and airy fit of the dress too. Finished in an orange-red shade, the vintage inspiration is clear to see in this piece.

Peter Pan Collar Coat from River Island

Posted: 08 Nov 2011 09:16 AM PST

Peterpancollarcoat

Peter Pan collared dresses have been the flavour of the month for sixties dress design of late, so it only seems fair that outerwear gets a look in on the iconic style. This Navy Peter Pan Coat from River Island has a simplistic design that looks timeless.

The straight and sharp cut of the silhouette lends itself well to subtle design additions like ruffled shoulders and hip pockets. It's the contrasting colours that really lend a retro edge, however, with bright white buttons and the rounded collar popping out against a rich navy wool blend.

It's now available from River Island for £85.

eBay watch: 1970 Fiat 500L in original condition

Posted: 08 Nov 2011 06:38 AM PST

Fiat1

We see a lot of Fiat 500s, some wrecks, some overly restored. But this 1970 Fiat 500L gets it just about right.

It's not a wreck, nor has it been restored to a showroom example. This looks like the car that was driven around in 1970, although its now got 76,000 on the clock via its four previous owners.

Fiat2

But what it has got is the original interior and colour scheme, plus what looks to be original bumpers and wheel trims. it could do with some work, there are spots or rust for a start. But it drives fine, just as long as you're good with the left-hand drive and really does look the part.

£3,000 is the current price.

Also, talking of the Fiat 500, check out this Disney-themed Fiat 500, which is also up for auction on eBay right now.

If you love the pop art style, but can't quite stretch to a Peter Blake original, then Julia Trigg's Signals Prints could be a good alternative.

Trigg's work is based around her love of typographic ephemera with the Signals series being created from her collection of ham radio cards from 1920s to 1950s. The original letterpress printed cards were sent by post to confirm receipt of signals and always featured their call code using woodblock type. There are 18 designs to choose from, each limited to 100 copies. All of the prints are available in A2 size priced £180, although some designs are also available in A3 size for £120.

Visit Unlimited Designs to see the full collection.

Hot Stuff Trivet

Normal_Oak_trivet
Although the description doesn't say as much the Hot Stuff Trivet is instantly recognisable as based on a Love Heart sweet.

Made from solid oak (as opposed to sugar), it has the words "Hot Stuff" inside a heart shape carved into the round trivet. "Hot Stuff" was definitely a real Love Hearts message – I'm not sure whether it still is – the sweets having been disgracefully updated with modern nonsense like "Text Me".

It costs £28 from SquarePear Furniture via Not on the High Street.

Dwell's Vespa pizza cutter is the perfect thing for italophiles, combining two of the countries most famous exports.

Perhaps a little less stylish than your average model - though perfectly equipped to do the job required - it's a pizza slicer in the shape of a vespa. One to file next to the vinyl-shaped pizza slicer in the novelty kitchen implements drawer maybe?

The cutter costs £14.95.
