ACTOR CLIFF ROBERTSON DEAD AT 88....

Cliff Robertson as JFK in "PT 109"

I just loved Cliff Robertson as an actor as did my mother. He was so handsome and a gret performer as well. I didn't like the movie "Charly" as the ending was sad... but I still love Cliff as JFK in "PT 109"... I watch a newer film all the time called "JFK: Reckless Years" starring a young Patrick Dempsey as JFK. they are both really great in the same role...RK

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor Cliff Robertson, who won an Oscar playing a mentally disabled janitor in "Charly" and worked in movies ranging from "PT 109" to "Spider-Man 3," died in New York Saturday, the day after his 88th birthday.

Robertson's career spanned more than 60 years and included Hollywood movies, Broadway shows, television dramas and commercials. He also is remembered for his courage in exposing powerful Columbia studios chief David Begelman, who had forged his name on a $10,000 check in the late 1970s.

Begelman's misappropriation of studio money caused a scandal at the time that was dubbed "Hollywoodgate" and Robertson became a hero among some industry players by risking his career to expose Begelman. In fact, work dried up for several years before he forged a comeback.

James Bond's real life Q on firearms, circa 1964

Scotch and a handgun... what could go wrong?

The modern action man of the 20th Century, James Bond is a pop cultural icon of the atomic age. The novels captured the imagination of an entire generation and sparked a massively successful franchise of films, collectibles and more. A super spy who traveled to exotic locales, drove top of the line cars and utilized the most sophisticated gadgetry in his work, Bond lived a life so exciting and exhilerating that it continues to find new fans every year.

There are many iterations of Ian Fleming's James Bond from the novels to comic strips and numerous films. Everyone has their favorite, but for my money it has to be Sean Connery. Combining the suave devil-may-care smirk with his brutish physique, he cuts a mean visage in his tailored suit and swings a mean punch to the jaw. In this rare promotional video, Connery takes a break from filming Goldfinger to introduce the real life Q, Geoffrey Boothroyd. Boothroyd was a follower of Fleming's work, but felt that the autrhor needed to be pointed in the right direction regarding firearms.

Many thanks to i09 for the tip. The comments following the video are rather fascinating as they characterize the UK and US attitudes on guns and gun laws. At least, the character of UK and US online posters at i09.

[New post] New characters and more in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes season 2

New characters and more in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes season 2

The first season of the Avengers cartoon was a fun ride that firmly established the Marvel Universe in a new way that paid homage to the legacy of the comic book. The Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man, Captain America, the Wasp, Hawkeye and Black Panther have already been heavily developed as the Avengers in the previous year but there are plenty of new additions coming for their second time out. Hank Pym (Giant Man) will apparently be adopting his Yellow Jacket persona and the wasp will be getting as new costume. Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther and Captain America will all be donning new uniforms and in some case gaining new weaponry!

Several new Avengers; Ms. Marvel, the Falcon, the Vision and Mockingbird are also on their way and are sure to generate lots of excitement from fans. Additionally, the Guardians of the Galaxy will co-star for a story, so get ready for Groot! The Black Widow, Nick Fury, Agent 13 and the Fantastic Four will also be guest-starring.

In addition to new team members, several old villains will be coming back in addition to some new ones. as the concluding episode of season one confirmed, there is a Skrull menace on its way for the planet, so our heroes are sure to have their hands full.

Joshua Fine and Christopher Yost give viewers the details on what to expect in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes Season 2 in this sneak peek video.
