Pleated Skirt Dress from ASOS

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 12:40 PM PST

Buttondress

Much of the current sixties influenced pieces available this past few seasons have relied on a fairly narrow definition of the era's style. Branching out from patterned shift dresses is this Pleated Skirt Dress from ASOS, providing something less seen in high street prices.

The swing style skirt makes the silhouette, with a high neckline and elbow length sleeves creating a retro look in the bodice. The sixties influence continues thanks to the addition of large button detailing, along with the two vintage styled colour choices.

Get yours from ASOS for £40.

Ghetto1

Yes, the boombox is back, although the iHome iP4 FM Stereo Boombox for iPhone/iPod is a very modern recreation.

Although the look is very much of the past. At first glance, it's an 80s classic, ready to blast out your radio or tapes, albeit in a single shade of black or pink. No tapes here though, you'll have to dock your iPod or iPhone in the centre to get the music.

Ghetto2

In terms of features, the iP4 has a pair of 4″ carbon-composite woofers, and two 1″ ferro-fluid cooled tweeters, powered by a class D amp. It's also got a 5-band graphic equaliser with an LCD screen, and an FM radio, along with a remote control, which is magnetically attached to the top of the boombox. As for power, battery or mains.

Both colours are available right now in the US-version of Urban Outfitters, priced at $199. We suspect they'll be in the UK version in no time at all.

Pariscushion
John Lewis celebrates some of the world's best cities through a range of cushions, including this Paris Icons Cushion.

The front of the cushion features a map of Paris, reduced to a graphic design that could just be taken for an abstract print. Flip it over and you have three things considered to be icons of Paris: the Eiffel Tower, a bicycle with basket on the front and a striped top. Similar treatment has been given to New York and London, with their icons being the Statue of Liberty, yellow cab and a big apple, and Big Ben, a London bus and a cup of tea respectively.

The cushions cost £35 each from John Lewis.

Something very distinctive and very much of its era - this 1970s Erco glass and chrome ceiling light.

A mix of space age and modernism, the lampshade is made of brushed aluminium, featuring a long cylinder with a funnel base decorated with circular perforations at its base. It also has a large rim that's been lacquered white on the inside to maximise light reflection. Around that is a glass sphere, which rests on the bottom rim of the metal.

As for condition, it is described as being in 'very good vintage condition' and 'in full working order', with just a few age related scratches and marks on the white lacquer work inside the aluminium lampshade.

The toughened glass is decorated with Pop-style scenes of London - if you love the work of Maria Dahlgren, this design will be right up your street. It's good to see things like pie and tea making it on there, alongside some of London's more famous icons like Tower Bridge and the Big Ben tower.
