Carter Sewing Machine Teapot

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 11:05 AM PDT

TeapotAlthough perhaps not the most practical of tea-carrying vessels, this Sewing Machine Teapot from Carter at Selfridges is certainly the most apt addition to the retro crafter's next tea party.

The teapot is inspired by the eponymous Singer model 66 machine from the 1920s that you may have seen gathering dust in junk shops. This quirky, scaled down version of the beloved vintage sewing machine, depicted stitching a bit of floral frockage, may not be the best way to make do and mend but makes a far better vehicle for your afternoon Earl Grey.

The Sewing Machine Teapot is £85 from Selfridges. See the website for more details.

It looks like it's woken up, grown legs, and hopped from the 1960s right into your palm. This business card case defies the stereotypically sleazy business man and is cool and fashionable. What's better - it's good for the environment too and is made out of recycled leather. The case is made from beautiful Italian re-used leather and can hold around 30 standard-sized cards.

For sale: 1970s five-bedroomed house in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 08:24 AM PDT

Gos1

Fancy a trip back in time to the 1970s? You get that thrown in with this five-bedroomed house in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Not just a '70s build, it has an interior largely-unchanged from its original construction. Not all of it - some of the bedrooms had some work in the 1980s and the kitchen looks like it has had some updating. But aside from that, this house is very much a period piece, most notably with the staircase and built-in wooden furnishings, the room dividers, the light fittings, the doors and of course, the Pieff suite to name just a few things.

Gos2

Of course, some of that is only dressing and might not be staying, so the house overall is the headline act. For your money, you get a reception and hallway, a downstairs cloakroom/wc, a 23ft Sitting room, a 30ft living/dining room, a kitchen/breakfast room and utility room, with the upstairs offering a master bedroom, dressing room area, en-suite bathroom/wc, three further double bedrooms, a study/single bedroom and family bathroom/wc.

Gos5

Externally, two driveways provide parking for two to three cars, with an enclosed courtyard to the side of the property and a car port. There's also a garden, which is partly lawned and partly paved with well stocked borders and a timber shed.

£699,000 is the asking price. Furnishings presumably extra.

eBay watch: 1970s Triumph 2000 White Police Car and period accessories

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 03:53 AM PDT

Police1

Fancy recreating your very own vintage British crime drama? You can with this 1970s Triumph 2000 White Police Car.

It was used in the police force from 1971 - 1974, indeed 'The Chief Constable of Devon & Cornwall' is the first name on the log book. However, it didn't arrive like this with the present owner, it has been re-dressed as a police car, with the original Exeter police roof box attaching magnetically to the car for proper authenticity.

Police2

Not just the car (which has a mileage of 55,000 miles, is MOT'd and tax exempt), the vehicle also has a replica switch box for the lights etc and comes with various add-ons, including 70s police posters, 70s highway codes, documents, 70s police tunics, note books, handcuffs, hats, high-visibility jackets and the original 'nee naa' sound apparently.

Want it? The current price is £1,500.

The Manchester Connection exhibition at the Movie Poster Art Gallery in London

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 03:31 AM PDT

Manc1

You might expect this to be taking place 'up north' Manchester, but you'll have to go to the Movie Poster Art Gallery in London for the Manchester Connection Exhibition.

It's a selling exhibition, which in effect means you can browse the walls and buy anything that takes your fancy. On those walls, you'll find 'a celebration of Manchester's legendary renaissance in musical and design creativity' that followed the Sex Pistols' Free Trade Hall gig in 1976.

Manc2

That means the designs Factory commissioned from Peter Saville, Central Station Design, Ben Kelly and 8vo, along with the design concepts of Morrissey for The Smiths, and the Stone Roses' guitarist John Squire.

Highlights include rare original music posters from The Smiths, New Order, A Certain Ratio, Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses, plus an ultra rare poster of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures, rare sleeve proofs of The Smiths, A Certain Ratio, New Order, and a unique Morrissey hand-annotated sleeve proof for Your Arsenal. There are also a few rare artefacts including the original FAC51 embosser used at the Hacienda and the original 'Gay Traitor' bar menu poster from the same club.

Some items are already online to browse, with more being added ahead of the exhibition opening on Thursday 10th November 2011.

Oeuf Dresser and Hutch

Oeuf NYC consistently proves that children's furniture can be stylish with the combination of the Oeuf Dresser and Hutch prove.

The dresser has four drawers for storing baby's clothes, but it is also the ideal height to be used with a changing mat for nappy changing. The Hutch provides a great additional storage with two shelves a top cabinet that fit on top of the dresser. Holes for electrical wiring allow lamps and other electrical items to be placed on the shelves without trailing cables. The dresser in walnut and white costs £810 and the Hutch costs £299, which perhaps seem expensive for kids' furniture, but when it looks this good, you can use it elsewhere in the house when they have outgrown it.

Buy them online from Nubie.

The ceramic teapot has sunflower yellow glaze and is decorated with a vintage-looking orange and green flower print. It will take half a litre of liquid, which should be plenty of room for a couple of cups.

It costs £16.99 from The Contemporary Home.
