100 years of Michelin House

Michelin poster

If you are London based, you may want to check out some of the events designed to celebrated 100 years of Michelin House

This distinctive building, on the corner of Fulham Road, was commissioned by the Michelin company as their first British HQ. They moved out in 1985 when it was bought by Terence Conran and Paul Hamlyn. The building now hosts the Conran Shop as well as the Bibendum oyster bar and remains as architecturally interesting as ever, decorated with stained glass, ornate tiles and combining a curious mixture of Art Nouveau and Art Deco influences.

Currently the front of the shop and a small display is devoted to the building's history, including some archive photographs and original advertising posters. As part of the celebrations, six of these iconic pieces of Michelin advertising, selected from their historic archive, have been re-issued by the Conran Shop on canvas - including the distinctive design above.

Unfortunately the prints are currently available in store only but prices start at £99 for a 72 x 52cm print.

Find out more about the prints and other instore events online.

Barneby Gates Promenade wallpaper

More quirky wallpaper, this time courtesy of Barneby Gates and their Promenade design.

You may remember their This Other Eden wallpaper, which appeared to be composed of old photographs. This design also has a vintage appearance, looking like a traditional toile design. Peer a bit closer (there's a close-up over the page to help you) and you'll see an extraordinary range of characters, based on changing fashions of the twentieth-century. So you get a fully decked out teddy boy talking to a flapper boy, or a punk addressing an Edwardian lady. The characters promenade even takes them past iconic temples to fashion such as the Biba store.

The design is great fun and is sure to be a talking point for many more years. It costs £65 a roll.

Products featuring "ironic" 1950s housewives aren't anything special and in most cases the joke has worn pretty thin, but Emma Pyrah's "1950s Housewives" Collage are a different matter.

The retro housewives are depicted doing their chores set against a black & white background. On closer inspection, the women's bodies are actually made up of images cut frommagazines and advertisements. There are several different designs to chose from, but they all cost £45.

Visit Henhouse Interiors to see the whole collection.

Vintage 1953 Coronation Tin

Vintage_110111_tins5_8404tn

Buy your own piece of history with this vintage 1953 Coronation Tin from Steptoes Dog. This classic tin was made as a souvenir to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and dates to 1953.

It's a fabulous way of adding some vintage-chic to your life and a unique relic from the coronation.

The tin measures approx 6 inches / 15 cm wide, 1 inch/ 2.5cm tall and 4 inches/ 10 cm deep and is in good condition. Compared to the number of William and Kate souvenirs being churned out, this is a Royal antique with charm and character and for only £11 from Steptoes Dog it's also a bit of a bargain.

eBay watch: Original 1950s George Nelson sunburst wall clock by Howard Miller

Nelson_clock

A real gem has landed on eBay, this original 1950s George Nelson wall clock by Howard Miller. But there is one small problem with it.

However, yes, an original, not a reproduction. It's down as model 2022, a sunburst-style clock with 12 tapered rosewood rays, plus a drum-shaped metal dial with screw-on back plate. The entire thing has an overall diameter of 18.5 inches.

Condition is described as 'excellent', although the hands and mechanism 'appear to have been replaced' and don't seem to work. A clock expert should be able to sort it out. Anyway, right now it's just 99p - so one to keep an eye on.

Hot on the heels of the leather reissues at the end of last year is a reissue of the Adidas Kegler Super trainers reissued in blue and brown suede.

One of those is pictured above, the other is shown over the page. Aside from the colours and the suede upper, it's 'as you were' for this 1980s classic, most notably with the classic 'peg' system on the sole, some contrast detailing in a similar shade and of course, a foiled printed 'Kegler Super' logo on the side.

Certainly to fly out, you can get a pair at Size? for £64.99.
