Missbud

Much of the style of modern pin-up reinvention is unflinchingly daring, with bright colours, bold prints and luxurious textures collding to create a vampy and kitsch look. If you love the style but aren't quite brave enough to go whole hog yet, well chosen accessories are an ideal in-road.

These Baby Betty Pin-Up Purses by Miss Bud have all the kitsch appeal of a pin-up inspired rockabilly look in one piece. A satin-look fabric provides the luxurious edge to a classic, tattoo style pin-up and card game print - a look now synonymous with 50s rockabilly fashion. Finished with a kiss-lock clasp and vintage style frame it's the perfect way to get some retro in your every day wardrobe.

Heart Print Dress from Chelsea Girl at River Island

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 10:35 AM PST

Chelseaheart
River Island
is a high street brand that's always been decidedly modern, but with their new Chelsea Girl line they're going back to their roots to bring some great retro fare. Taking their original name, the line features 60s, 70s and 80s looks inspired by the brand's own original designs.

This Heart Print Dress is one of the best sixties looks, providing a very British style from the time. The a-line skirt combined with bell sleeves and a peep hole neck provide the ideal silhouette for a quirky print. In shades of mustard yellow and navy, the palette is spot on too.

eBay watch: A pair of 1960s Poul Henningsen-designed PH 4/3 pendant lights by Louis Poulsen

Ph

A long title, but a small price for some designer lighting of the 1960s - these Poul Henningsen-designed PH 4/3 pendant lights by Louis Poulsen.

Yes, not one, but two of these 1966-designed lights, part of a series of lights dating back to the mid-1920s. These particular variants  are primarily for downward illumination, based on the principle of a reflecting multi-shade system, which creates 'a harmonious and glare free illumination'.

The two on eBay aren't perfect, with a few light scratches and a small dent to the top of one of the lamps. But they do have the original Louis Poulsen stickers still attached and are currently available as a pair for just 99p. A real bargain.

Girard angel
Send your festive wishes mid-century style this year, with the Alexander Girard Christmas cards available from Lagom.

The cards add to their existing range of greeting cards based on Girard's colourful designs. Girard apparently amassed nativities for the International Museum of Folk Art in Santa Fe (in term inspiring the recently issued nativity set) so it's no surprise these influenced his work. Shown above is a card based on a 1962 Nativity Angel. You can also pick from a card featuring a Nativity dating from 1968 or Flying Angels from 1971.

Individual cards cost £1.80 each, or you can get a set of the angels in three different colours for £3.40.

The finishing touches are the oak feet, the wood tops to the arms and the oak 'buttons' that go all the way through the back and arms of the chair.

Decided to consider investing? Well, the chair costs £995 for upholstery in your own fabric, or £1395 for the linen and leather finish pictured.
