Uoldbag! are in the business of taking old bags and suitcases and turning them in to something new and beautiful which references their origins.

This suitcase has been decoupaged with an original vintage crochet pattern and then embroidered by hand over the top so that various elements are picked out in colour.

The case measures 41cm/27cm/13cm, has it's original lining and also comes with a key for the lock. It may not stand up to the rigours of the luggage carousel but would make a great overnight case or trinket box.

It costs £190 from Uoldbag who sell their wares here.

Carson Polka Dot Dress from Boohoo

Bustierdress

Polka dot print is a fabric choice that is perenially associated with retro styles, particularly 50s looks. The second decade that favoured the famous spots was the 1980s, malking this Carson Bustier Dress from Boohoo an ideally cutesy eighties look.

The dress has the ideal structure for the era, too, with a ruffle skirt and spaghetti straps creating a great prom silhouette. The sweetheart neckline and fitted bodice finish off a look that's instantly retro, and versatile enough to dress up or down for day or night.

It's available from Boohoo now for just £20.

eBay watch: 1970s Krups Comfortchron Lux flip clock

Posted: 01 Mar 2011 10:24 AM PST

Krups

A piece of old school technology, but one with a lot of character - this Krups Comfortchron Lux flip clock.

It's a German-made clock from the 1970s in a bold shade of yellow, offering the basics of time-telling via those flip digits and power via batteries or mains, so less wires if you don't want them.

It's described as being in 'used but very good' condition, as the 'battery box shows some signs of corrosion', but nothing to affect performance. Just one bid so far, taking the price to £1.99.

Maeve Tunic from Monsoon

Maevetunic

With seventies inspiration making its mark all across the high street, many designers have been focused heavily on the mainstream and disco styles from the era. This Maeve Tunic from Monsoon offers something different from that time, with a folksy post-sixties look.

The loose fit of the tunic style creates a relaxed, flowing shape with subtle femininity. With pleated sheer sleeves and a gypsy front fastening, the embroidery makes this an ideal Spring/Summer festival look from the post-Woodstock kids' style.

Hairstyles: Ancient to Present

Posted: 01 Mar 2011 05:24 AM PST

Hairstyles
We've shown you some practical guides to vintage hairdressing but for a different approach you may want to pick up a copy of Hairstyles: Ancient to Present.

Written by Charlotte Fiell and published by her Fiell Publishing company, it's a huge doorstopper of a book: with over one thousand images and 576 pages of hair inspiration. It charts some of the most elaborate styles throughout history, going right back to ancient Greece, but with plenty of twentieth-century fancy folicles to explore too. There's the flapper bob, Twiggy's crop and the mohawk just for starters.

It's not a cheap buy - the book is priced £49.95 and is currently available on Amazon for £47.75 - but potentially a sound investment if you are considering a new hairstyle.

For sale: 1970s modernist six-bedroomed house on Lakeside Drive, Esher, Surrey

Posted: 01 Mar 2011 05:23 AM PST

Esher1

It might be out of reach financially for most of us, but this six-bedroomed house on Lakeside Drive, Esher, Surrey is well worth a look for its cool modernist architecture.

It was designed back in 1975  by renowned architect Royston Summers, not just in a sought-after location, but also built on the side of a lake, one of a group of 16 houses sharing this location. A location that's subject to preservation orders for both the lake and trees, as well as being a private road.

Esher2

The house on offer here is said to have the best location, a spacious and substantial property that screams the era, with those six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a waterside front, gardens and a double garage. The interior mixes original with new, internal joinery of Canadian white rock maple for the former, extensive use of blue pearl granite for the latter.

Check out all the images on the estate agent's website and should your Lotto numbers come up this week, £1,895,000 is the asking price.

50s Housewife Russian Dolls

Posted: 01 Mar 2011 02:47 AM PST

50housewifedolls
These 50s Housewife Russian Dolls are an unusual twist on the traditional sets of dolls.

The figures are blonde women, who look rather like Mad Men's Betty Draper, doing a succession of housewife chores, including serving a roast diner, brushing her children's hair, ironing (whilst drinking a cocktail), dusting and applying lipstick. The dolls were created by artist Yana Elkassova, taking inspiration from her Russian heritage and using it to humorously show ideas of womanhood.

The dolls cost £180 from Eye Storm, a price that reflects their status as a piece of art, rather than a toy.

Record Print Armchair

You may have hundreds of records you treasure, but do you love vinyl enough to give this Record Print Armchair pride of place in our lounge?

The eye-catching fabric has been designed by 009 Textiles, a West London based fabric design company. The print consists of various vinyl singles against a white background, with the labels of each record adding splashes of colour to the design. The photographs of this item don't show the fabric in enough detail to see what the individual labels are so that we can check the credibility of music selection, which could be a big factor in whether you'd want to buy this.

The chair is available to buy from the My Deco Boutique for £2,382.

Bedazzled limited edition poster by Piper Gates Design

Posted: 01 Mar 2011 12:56 AM PST

Bed1

If you loved The Prisoner by Piper Gates Design recently, chances are you'll also love this latest limited edition poster by the designer, a new take on Bedazzled.

As you might have guessed, this is a tribute to the original Bedazzled, not the nightmare remake. Which means it does, of course, feature one of its stars - the legend that is Peter Cook. Like the recent Prisoner poster, it also uses the format of 1960s Penguin paperback reference books, complete with an old 3'6 price tag on the top.

Just 30 copies of this have been produced, sized at 500mm x 700mm and printed on 194 gram paper, all signed by the artist. If you want one, you can grab one for £24.99. See over the page for an image of one framed up.
