WEST MEMPHIS THREE SET FREE!

Posted: 19 Aug 2011 10:17 AM PDT

I have been watching this case for over a decade. Honestly I feel that these kids were railroaded. Particularly Damien Echols... Damien was "Goth" before Goth became the uniform for millions of American Teenagers. He read pagan books and had a dark demeanor as do a lot of rebellious teenagers. But because he was "different" they pinned this terrible murder of 3 Cub Scouts on Damien as the leader. After reading alot books, tv shows, and stories online, I feel like I know these kids. The 3 had a lot of celebrity support including Johnny Depp. I am glad they are free.

JONESBORO, Ark. - Three men convicted of killing three 8-year-old Cub Scouts and dumping their naked bodies in an Arkansas ditch have been allowed to change their pleas and will be freed after nearly two decades in prison.

Jason Baldwin Damien Echols, and Jessie Misskelley

The so-called West Memphis Three agreed to a legal maneuver that lets them maintain their innocence while acknowledging prosecutors likely have enough evidence to convict them.

WM3 left prison with all belongings; source says they are not expected back

by Mara Leveritt on August 18, 2011

Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, Jr. have been taken from their cells in the Arkansas Department of Correction and are being transported to Jonesboro, for tomorrow's hearing. An official of the ADC reported that they left with all their belongings, which is unusual and suggests that they are not expected back. This is the first time all three have left prison together.

[New post] Downey Jr. and Black take Iron Man to the next level in third film

Downey Jr. and Black take Iron Man to the next level in third film

dailypop | August 19, 2011 at 10:45 am | Tags: iron man downey favreau avengers thor captain america | Categories: Iron Man | URL: http://wp.me/p4kUt-2Zw

The third Iron Man movie is a couple of years away, but director/screenwriter Shane Black and Robert Downey Jr. are already chatting about how they are planning to bring the character and action back into the franchise in a stripped-down flick. The word on the 'net is that the movie will focus more on Tony Stark acting alone with a suitcase version of the Iron Man armor rather than the support of a mega corporation and fellow heroes. Downey has said that the script is still being worked out, so that rumor is likely untrue, so it's still unclear what the direction of the movie will be and what super villain Iron Man will face.

"Iron Man 2″ brought in $624 million in worldwide box office but the reviews weren't as strong as they were on the first film and Downey says that, watching the sequel now, he sees a film in which a lot of things worked but plenty of other things didn't. The next movie will be written and directed by Shane Black, who became a brand name in Hollywood in the 1980s for writing action films such as "Lethal Weapon," "Lethal Weapon 2″ and "The Last Boy Scout." Black made his directorial debut in 2005 with "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," the deliriously over-the-top dark comedy that starred Downey as a petty criminal who is whisked off to the West Coast for a Tinseltown adventure that promises fame but delivers a body count.

Black began his Hollywood life as a prodigy among blockbuster screenwriters — he famously wrote "Lethal Weapon" in six weeks at age 23 — but by the mid-'90s the scene lost much of its appeal after watching his scripts for "The Last Action Hero" and "The Long Kiss Goodnight" reach the screen with too many revisions and too little spirit. The budget on "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" was a tiny $15 million, but to Downey that number reveals more about Black's capabilities as a director than it does his limitations.

"He's more than the sum of his parts and he's also kind of been a sleeper for a long time," Downey said. "We're not talking much about [the script] right now because Shane is off writing and we talked before that and when we are talking again the talking is going to be over pretty quick [because we're on the same page]. It's kind of like we're fighting on the same side and at the same time we're circling each other, so it's all great. It should be great."

[New post] Doctor Who battles creepy dolls in 'Night Terrors'

Doctor Who battles creepy dolls in 'Night Terrors'

The second part of Doctor Who's sixth series will soon be upon us and the news surrounding its stories is starting to turn from a trickle into a flood. Mark Gatiss' third script for the BBC Wales series will introduce a new menace that promises to scare the socks off of viewers.

As any regular visitor to my blog would know, I have mixed feelings about the new series but I do like how Moffat is varying the stories so far, diverting from horror to sci-fi epic and domestic comedy with comparative ease. I'm also a big supporter of new ideas and new monsters, something that Moffat again is determined to continue. That said, a recent glimpse of a Cyberman in what appears to be a tomb has me very excited.

Here's the official BBC release for series 6 episode 9: 'Night Terrors.'

Via TardisNewsroom:

A little boy called George is terrified of something lurking in his bedroom cupboard…

The Doctor receives a strange letter, begging "Help me"…

And so begins Night Terrors, episode nine of the current Doctor Who series.

Written by Mark Gatiss, it sounds like being an eerie, scary tale and (as you might expect from the man who presented BBC4 documentary series A History of Horror) it employs a reliable staple of supernatural movies - toys coming to life.

The creepy Peg Dolls – until now, heralded only by a brief appearance in the series six trailer - are dead-eyed, implacable and relentless.

But what do they want with young George?

Daniel Mays (last seen in Outcasts and Ashes to Ashes) plays worried dad Alex, who teams up with the Doctor to help battle his son George's demons. But not before Rory and Amy find themselves miniaturised and sucked into the strange doll's house in George's cupboard.

What else can the Doctor and Alex do but follow them inside...?

Doctor Who – Night Terrors airs on Saturday 3 September.

[New post] Julian Bane's alternate Doctor Who empire

Julian Bane's alternate Doctor Who empire

dailypop | August 19, 2011 at 8:09 am | Tags: doctor who fan film, julian bane, Star wars | Categories: doctor who | URL: http://wp.me/p4kUt-2Z8

A mash-up of Star Wars and Doctor Who, Alternate Empire is the brainchild of actor Julian Bane. A fan of Doctor Who from childhood and a devotee to science fiction, Alternate Empire has been gaining plenty of positive word of mouth support from the fan community. A six part series co-starring Irish TC host Caroline Morahan as traveling companion Samantha, Doctor Who Alternate Empire is a labor of love written and directed by Julian Bane with his own money. A work in progress, it's interesting to see the production grow from part to part.

One of the more inspired decisions was to portray an entirely original take on the Doctor rather than imitating an existing incarnation of the Doctor. Bane's performance is very down-played and subtle, allowing for the performance to grow in its own way. In watching several other fan films, I have noticed that the Doctor in those programs was drawn in a similar pallet to an existing version of the character. It's inspiring that Bane braved his own take rather than go the safe route.

Alternate Empire is a mixed bag, and the seams certainly show, but you cannot deny the determination that the cast and crew have in their persistence.

As the series has continued, the production has become more elaborate as more crew members have joined the team. As the series gains steam, Julian Bane is taking some time to develop his universe more with a run of audio adventures set before the video program. It is clear that much has happened off-screen that will no doubt be expounded upon in these new productions.

Official Mad Men Collection at Banana Republic now available

Posted: 18 Aug 2011 01:17 PM PDT

Madmen1

We flagged it up some time back, but now it looks like the first items in the official Mad Men Collection are now available to buy online at Banana Republic.

The items have landed in the US store (which does international shipping), with clothing and accessories for both men and women designed by Janie Bryant, who designed the costumes for the TV show.

Some examples above and over the page. Above, you can see the lace tipped dress, with short sleeves, a draped neckline, a lace trim at neck and hem, invisible back zip and vented back hem. That sells for $150. The other is the lace dress, which has cap sleeves, a boat neckline and invisible back zip. $130 for that.

Further down the page are a couple of the men's items, which to be honest, are less impressive and more expensive. Worth a look though. To the left is the suit, which you'll have to buy separately as trousers, waistcoat and a slim jacket with notched lapel, two-button closure, three exterior pockets, three interior pockets, two-button cuffs and a single back vent. The jacket is $375. The other item below is the five-button shawl collar cardigan, with three front pockets, which sells for $150.

Those are just a few items, see the site for all the clothing and accessories for both men and women. Note also that the site currently has a 25 per cent off code for the next few days. The code is BR25OFF if you want the money off and you're quick.

Grizzly knit cardigan

Posted: 18 Aug 2011 12:39 PM PDT

Cardi
Grandma chic has found a whole new level with this grizzly knit cardigan.

Although it's still August the weather is telling a different story and while trying to enjoy the last days of summer a warm, woolly cardigan might be in order. This is a perfect match and it even looks smart enough to wear to work. It's very warm and toasty and the metal studs make it slightly less likely to appear on your Grandma.

It's expensive but it will last so head out and get one from French Connection for £97.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the International motorcycle clothing range, Barbour has launched a limited edition Barbour Steve McQueen capsule collection based loosely around it. Pictured above is that Baker jacket, which faithfully recreates the jacket that Steve wore in the 1964 ISDT in East Germany.

It has a fully waxed outer, chest pockets, gold pop studs, throat latch and Barbour International woven logo patch on the chest. The Baker also features a U.S stars and stripes lining and U.S flag on the left chest. Limited numbers of course, it's yours for £279.

eBay watch: Austin Mini 1988 Mary Quant Designer Edition

Posted: 18 Aug 2011 07:21 AM PDT

Quant

There are a couple of these on eBay right now (you can see the other and cheaper one here), but we've opted for this Austin Mini Mary Quant Designer Edition because, quite simply, it looks a better car.

Both have been reconditioned though, so both worth a look if you are after one of these cars, which are certainly becoming more collectible as the years pass. This one, from 1988, has been significantly restored without affecting the original design, with parts and labour put at about £2,000. See the listing for a breakdown of upgrades.

Mileage is 70,500, condition is said to be 'excellent' and the Quant interior is intact. The bidding right now is £1,019. Lots of images on the listing page.

Slazenger Heritage bag collection

Posted: 18 Aug 2011 04:38 AM PDT

Slaz

The Slazenger Heritage collection continues to grow, with bags being the latest to be added to the company's range.

I'll be honest, I'm not blown away by most of them, the majority look trapped in some kind of modern/retro void. But look closely and to the right of the picture and you'll see two winners - a vintage-style holdall and a retro messenger bag, both of which keep it simple and authentic, with just the large logo as detail.

The rest may or may not appeal. You can get up-close to all of them in various colours on the Slazenger Heritage site soon, with prices from £29.99.

1970s Adidas Orion trainers to return as a Size? exclusive

Posted: 18 Aug 2011 03:27 AM PDT

Orion1

No doubt it will be greeted with the traditional crashing of the server when they do land, but if you are lucky, you might get a pair Adidas Orion trainers at some point.

First seen back in 1979, these aren't a regular on the reissue circuit, which is perhaps why they've been chosen as an exclusive reissue from the Size? store. Two colour options of this vintage running shoe will be available, both with a mesh upper, suede detailing and that chunky track sole. The blue and white is above, with the dark blue and orange over the page.

The release date is 20th September, the price is likely to be around £65. Here's hoping Size? has a server upgrade sorted before that date.

66721-T Table Lamp by Kaiser idell

Posted: 18 Aug 2011 03:22 AM PDT

1765
The Kaiser idell lighting range consists of floor, wall and table lamps and pendants, but one we've not mentioned here before is the 66721-T Table Lamp, the smallest table lamp in the series.

It was designed by Christian Dell in 1926 and like its bigger siblings is a classic of Bauhaus design – but in miniature. It is made from steel and brass with the patented swivel joint. It stands at 25.5cm tall and is available in black, ivory or white.

Sadly, the price is far from mini, with the lamps priced £332 from Ivor Innes.

Apparently, there is a frustrated author in each of us. Perhaps a My First Novel Notebook from Sukie is what you need to release the writer in you.

There are three designs to chose from; abstract, petal or alphabet, each in Sukie's colourful retro style. Each notebook is covered in card and finished with the words "Sukie First Editions 2/6" and "My First Novel", to give the air of a vintage book. The paper inside is plain, so you can use it from sketching too.

They cost £5.99 each from Magma Books.
