Posted: 15 Apr 2011 09:23 PM PDT

Kimmer and DJ Larry Newman

Had some big fun tonight folks! Scott Morgan and I went out to Banfield's on Jackson Rd to meet Dj/Bass player Larry Newman. Larry interviewed me and Scott last year on his radio show. We both had a great time on Larry's show.

Scott Morgan and Larry Newman

Larry didn't know that Scott was coming along with me tonight so he was pretty surprised!

Kimmer photo by Scott Morgan

Scott and I were playing with my new Sony Cybershot camera... Scott was into photography back in the day. He wanted to study photography at the University of Michigan but they didn't have the program he wanted back then.

Scott Morgan and fan Gordon

We ran into a big Scott fan Gordon who is a magician! Gordo the Magician did some magic for me as I love magic tricks.

We are all going to the Ron Asheton Memorial and that's why Larry is in town. So stay tuned for more on that show!

ERIC POUILLE AND THE HOLY CURSE TOUR DATES

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 05:42 PM PDT

Eric Pouille and Mark Sisto

One of my favorite rockers that I have had the pleasure to meet is Eric Pouille lead vocalist for Holy Curse in France. I met Eric when Deniz Tek was in town for our Ann Arbor Rock N Roll Revival show 12/18/09. Deniz asked me to go out to Metro Airport and snag his friend who just landed.

When I walked into baggage claim I saw Eric immediately... He is very tall! So we had fun chatting on the ride back to the rehearsal studio in Ann Arbor.

Eric sang Deniz Tek's song "New Race" It was thrilling to see as the finale of the show. People came pouring into the Blind Pig from other nearby clubs. It was so much fun! I did capture it on video...

[New post] Doctor Who Big Finish- Whispers of Terror

Doctor Who Big Finish- Whispers of Terror

Whispers of Terror

Story 03 Written by Justin Richards

Released: November 1999

"-something grand school of acting (no doubt). Loud. Bombastic... not my sort of thing, really."

As he was the lead actor during one of its most unfortunate drops in viewing figures, Colin Baker is often regarded as one of the less successful actors to play the Doctor. Following the departure of Peter Davison as the Doctor in 1984, Baker's entrance was one of violence and vulgar extravagance. After donning decrying the shame he felt regarding his previous incarnation, he donned a tasteless costume and proceeded to attack his companion Peri (whom he had only just sacrificed his life for in the previous adventure). It is understandable that a large portion of fandom shares a kind of revulsion to the Sixth Doctor, but he remains one of the most dynamic and potent versions of the character, as exemplified in adventures such as Whispers of Terror, that match his boundless intellect with a clever mystery.

The Doctor and Peri arrive within The Museum of Aural Antiquities just as a drastic political change. Set during an early stage of their 'relationship,' the pair are at odds with each other almost immediately. The Doctor is constantly screaming at Peri while she vainly attempts to get information from him. It's easy to define this as an abusive relationship but that would forget that the Doctor is a genius of nearly 900 years while his companion is a teenager of privilege possessing nearly no survival skills. It has also been hinted that the Doctor is merely putting on an act and has shown he dearly cares for Peri and holds her safety paramount in his concerns.

Soon after arriving at the museum, the time travelers discover a murder victim. Shortly afterwards, they find a suspicious individual editing audio files. Initially murder suspects, they soon prove themselves to be indefensible in finding the culprit behind the murder and a more sinister grab for power.

Justin Richards' script is simply stunning. His blend of twisting mysteries, inspired fantastic concepts and extravagant dialog makes Whispers of Terror a rather gripping adventure. An ingenious concept, Whispers of Terror involves a villain/monster fueled with murderous rage and consisting of only sound. The idea is great, but even better is the execution by Big Finish who prove up for the task, providing dizzying aural landscapes of fright that travel from ear to ear with each track.

An excellent adventure in the vein of the 22nd series of Doctor Who, Whispers of Terror is another accomplishment in a long series of comeuppances for Colin Baker's Sixth Doctor. A multi-colored action man with a penchant for verbose dialog and grand drama. A triumph!

Doctor Who - Whispers of Terror can be purchased at local retailers and online from Big Finish.

[New post] Is Batman: Hush headed for your home console?

Is Batman: Hush headed for your home console?

A specter of the night, driven by a loss that he can never overcome, determined to control the criminal element that pervades his city, Batman is one of the most powerful of modern mythical heroes. From the 1930's to today, he captivates people in print, video and more. A tragic character, Batman's intelligence and fighting prowess is matched only by his many foes who seem to be drawn directly from the darkest recesses of the human mind.

Who wouldn't want to be Batman?

Back in 2005, Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's landmark storyline entitled 'Hush' rocked the comic book world. It delved into the early days of Bruce Wayne's childhood, introducing a new character Thomas Elliot. Like Bruce, Thomas had lost his parents to tragedy, an experience that forever links the pair. In a series of seemingly unconnected incidents, Batman's chief villains strike Gotham City and Elliot is one of the casualties, driving Batman into a vengeful rage. A mysterious bandaged arch villain is directing The Joker, The Riddler, Ra's al Ghul, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc and more as Batman's cherished city becomes a battleground.

Recently, the rumor has surfaced that Hush may be the basis for the next Batman videogame to follow Arkham City.

The story of Batman: Hush read a lot like a video game, to be honest, pitting Batman against all of his enemies one after the other, framed in a tragic flashback to his youth and lost childhood friend. Even Superman entered the fray, controlled by Poison Ivy. If any Batman story begs to be developed into a video game, Hush is the prime target.

Via ComicBookMovie.com

The release of Batman: Arkham City is just over six months away, but it seems that another title is already being planned by Warner Bros. According to several domain names they've picked up, it looks like it may be based off of the popular arc by Jeph Loeb, "Hush". Here's the list of registered domain names:

-BatmanHush.com
-BatmanHushGame.com
-BatmanImposters.com
-BatmanImpostors.com
-BatmanKnightFell.com
-BatmanRedHoods.com

Whether this will be set in the same video game universe as Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City is unknown, while we also have no idea just how far into development it may or may not be! As I'm sure anyone who's read the comic book will agree, it would certainly make for an epic enough game!

As one poster over at CBM pointed out, one of the URLs claimed is KnightFell, hinting at Knight Fall, another massive storyline from the annals of Batman comics involving a gauntlet of villains and an inspired storyline not only crippling Bruce Wayne but also introducing a new more vicious Batman and of course the master villain, Bane. Could Knight Fall be in development as well?

Batman is an attractive character for video game adaptation. A master of hand-to-hand combat, a brilliant detective and gadgeteer, and possessing a brilliantly horrific rogue's gallery. There seems to be no end to the possibilities of bringing the dark knight avenger of Gotham City to the home console realm. Already Arkham Asylum has proven that a knock-out game is possible that satisfies fans and gamers alike. The sequel Arkham City looks to be an expansion on Rock Steady's success in that realm, opening up the playable environment even more for players.

What's next for Batman? There are a few possibilities such as Hush or Knight Fall. What other stories could be adapted for the next gen gaming consoles?

eBay watch: 1950s midcentury Hans Olsen dining table and chairs for Frem Rojle

Frem

When I'm looking for interesting eBay finds, I try and look for items that have low starting prices, but occasionally, quality wins out at a high price. Which brings me to this 1950s midcentury Hans Olsen dining table and chairs for Frem Rojle.

It's timeless. Designed in 1953 (with this one dating from around 1960), this Scandinavian design would fit effortlessly into most modern-day homes. Clever design too, with the chairs integrating perfectly into the the table to save space, while a quick fold turns the table into a six-seater,

Made of Burmese oak and described as being in 'very good original condition', it's up at £895.

Fresh slice - vinyl themed pizza cutter

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 07:41 AM PDT

Fresh slice

We love a good bit of vinyl, which is handy as shops seem eager to sell us record-related home accessories - the latest being the Fresh slice pizza cutter. Yep, it's a pizza cutter in which the blade is made to resemble a record (thankfully made from stainless steel rather than vinyl) and the plastic handle is made to look like a stylus arm.

File it next to the vinyl chopping board and the clock as a kitsch bit of kitchen fun.

The cutter costs £15.

For sale: Six-bedroom 1930s art deco house in Prestwich, near Manchester

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 06:56 AM PDT

Prestwich1

If this six-bedroom art deco house in Prestwich, near Manchester was a football match, it would be a game of two halves. Why? Read on.

It's all about the photos offered with the listing. Details are scarce on its history, the agent simply describing it as 'one of the most individual, presage, detached properties in the Prestwich area'. But a glance at it should be enough to tell you it's an art deco property very likely to have been built in the 1930s, with some very cool original details.

Prestwich2

Those include some huge wooden arched doors inside, some of which seem to be slide doors. There's also a superb railing on the staircase, a nice lighting effect in the living room and what looks like some original stained glass windows. On the flipside is a bar (presumably recent) and a number of rooms that look like they've been stripped of all period features and made into fairly bland spaces that could be from any modern-day home. Shame about most of the windows too. Part of me wonders if it's had an extension - you'll probably need to ask that.

Saying that, it shouldn't be hard to put some of the 'period' back in if you want it and there's lots of space - six bedrooms, two reception rooms, a second dining room, TV room, sitting room, bar/games room, large hall, kitchen/diner, detached double garage and plenty of grounds surrounding.

Price is 'on application', so unlikely to be cheap. To find out for sure, give the agent a call.

An-Tea Establishment Afternoon Tea, Met Bar, London

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 03:45 AM PDT

Mb_tea
As punks "celebrated" the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, it seemed inevitable that someone would add a punk twist to the upcoming Royal Wedding. It is in this spirit that London cocktail bar, The Met Bar, is hosting An-Tea Establishment Afternoon Tea.

This special tea will be available between 22 April and 8 May to coincide with the nuptials and will offer a menu including cucumber sandwiches, cupcakes and punk-inspired cocktails. The tea costs £27 + service charge per person, which isn't cheap, but royal weddings don't come around that often and if you want to avoid it, you may as well do it in style.

Visit The Met Bar website for booking details.
