DUSTY SPRINGFIELD

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 03:21 PM PDT

BORN: April 16, 1939, Hampstead, London, England
DIED: March 2, 1999

Britain's greatest pop diva, Dusty Springfield was also the finest white soul singer of her era, a performer of remarkable emotional resonance whose body of work spans the decades and their attendant musical transformations with a consistency and purity unmatched by any of her contemporaries; though a camp icon of glamorous excess in her towering beehive hairdo and panda-eye black mascara, the sultry intimacy and heart breaking urgency of Springfield's voice transcended image and fashion, embracing everything from lushly-orchestrated pop to gritty R&B to disco with unparalleled sophistication and depth.

One of Kimmer's all time favorite Divas! We were very sad that Dusty died so young. Our favorite song by Ms Springfield is : All I See is You...

Actually we love all of her songs and she was such a trend setter and soulful British singer. She sounds almost like she's from the southern US. Here is another of our most favorites.

MITCH RYDER

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 03:18 PM PDT

It was about 1966 and I was 10 years old that birthday. My mom took me to buy my present and all I wanted in the world was "Sock it to me Baby" by Mitch Ryder. My mom thought I might rather have the Beach Boys or Herman's Hermits. NO WAY I wanted "Devil with a Blue Dress" and "Shake a Tail Feather" and "Little Latin Lupe Lu".

I got it and she bought me the other records too! Mitch Ryder is the soundtrack of my life!
Born just outside of Detroit, Michigan in the late 50's I grew up listening to CKLW am from Canada. My first record I ever heard that made me jump to me feet and shake it was MITCH! You better sock it ...to me baby sock it!

Here thanks to YOU TUBE is the man in action.

My brother Joey Holland, lead singer from the Detroit band "The Toyz" came into Detroit to visit. We hooked up at John Sinclair's poetry reading and concert at The Park Avenue bar.

Bobby East Detroit's badass Guitarist who has played with everyone from Kid Rock to the Reefermen. Was playing the John Sinclair gig. Bobby and I go way back a good 35 years. He was originally the guitar player with "The Toyz".

Joey Holland's son, bass player extraordinaire, Desi Joseph from NYC was here fresh from a gig at Carnegie Hall in NYC. Smokin Bass player is this young kid...

HANGING WITH RSJ IN WYANDOTTE

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 03:11 PM PDT

Went out to Wyandotte, Michigan Friday night to hang with Rikki St James and get ready for a photo trip to Detroit for the 2011 Autorama Car Extravaganza. Wyandotte is a way cool little town full of art, restaurants, shops, and very unique architecture.

The Three Stooges used to play here, as did the Marx brothers. They had a really popular vaudeville theater in Wyandotte back in the day... The apartment buildings where both sets of entertainers once stayed still stand.

Wyandotte's Dragon

There is a sculptor that lives in Wyandotte and he keeps his major pieces placed around town. His yard probably isn't large enough to accomodate his works.

The first time I came out here I was on a mad tour around the clubs and galleries. As I was standing on a street corner waiting for my friend to stop yakking on his cell... I noticed a giant COW on the corner. LOL! Well it was really a long horn steer. Cow to me I guess... I thought ... hmm wonder what deep meaning is behind Wyandotte featuring a giant iron cow on the street corner?

Rikki St James and his Dragon friend

On this trip we went out to eat and we stopped by the very handsome and intimidating Dragon sculpture. I made RSJ pose for me and he decided to attack the poor thing!

RSJ stabs the dragon...

We went to this very nice restaurant Nanna's Kitchen so I decided to show my readers their menu... They have great breakfast and Greek Coney Island style food. I have been here 3 times now.

RSJ contemplates his options....

The Marx Brothers lived here...

Close up of Marx Brothers building...

Well we have had really great times out here and when the weather warms up we'll shoot more photos of the river front... We plan to visit this cool museum and a cemetary where some of The Purple Gang are interred. We also plan a trip over to Grosse Isle to see another of Harry Bennett's Hideaways.

Thanks so much RSJ! xxooK

[New post] Doctor Who -Reign of Terror -missing parts to be animated

Doctor Who -Reign of Terror -missing parts to be animated

Early character study from REIGN OF TERROR based on available promotional still (2|Entertain, via yfrog)

2|Entertain have announced that the missing episodes four and five of the William Hartnell adventure The Reign of Terror are to be animated as part of the forthcoming DVD, which the company previously reported would provisionally be released late 2012.

The animators for the project have been named as Big Finish - long-term Doctor Who audio producers, and whose Real Time and Shada adventures were animated for the BBC Doctor Who website - and animation company Theta Sigma, whose Thetamation is described as "a totally new style of animation, a hybrid of the classic anime styles of the 80s and high-technology".

The story is one of the remaining to have its surviving episodes released on DVD, leaving only those of the incomplete The Tenth Planet and The Ice Warriors still to be scheduled. Prior to this, The Invasion received a similar treatment in 2006 when its missing episodes one and four were re-created by award-winning animatorsCosgrove Hall.

One of the more ambitious Doctor Who stories, The Reign of Terror by Dennis Spooner (writer and later script editor for the program) is a true classic. Plunging the TARDIS crew headlong into the post-revolution France results in a tense, bloody and thrilling adventure. There are few punches pulled and it is even insinuated on screen that Robespierre's jaw was shot clean away in his final moments when he was removed from office. There are moments of levity as well, such as the Doctor's skillful manipulation of others to release his friends from danger. A wonderful historical serial, I am overjoyed that Reign of Terror is not only being released on DVD but also getting the animation treatment, something that was defined as too expensive after the Invasion DVD release.

If this release sees high sales figures, I am hopeful that a similar treatment is possible for Tenth Planet and The Ice Warriors!
