CHRISTMAS AT GRACELAND

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 02:57 PM PST

It just isn't Christmas without Elvis Presley's voice....

Graceland's beautiful Living Room just as it was...

I used to produce a public show at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis at Christmas Time. Always made a point to go and take (drag) my staff to see Graceland. We waited for the tram in the shopping area to take us across the street to Graceland. We sat under a heated awning with Elvis Christmas Music piped in overhead. It played the same short cd over and over and I guess it is permanently burned into my holiday psyche. Silver Bells over and over :)

Elvis and his custom made 15 ft sofa.

My favorite room is the living room with it's giant 15 ft long white couch. Notice Elvis had the drapes changed at Christmas each year to red from the normal blue.

Graceland Back View

The lights around the grounds are so lovely. Elvis loved the holidays and the Graceland caretakers continue his tradition to this day.

Jungle Room

Elvis Presley's Graceland is the second most visited house in the United States. It is preserved exactly as it was when Elvis lived here, complete with the Jungle Room and shag carpeting. Elvis' is buried here in the Graceland Meditation Garden by the pool.

After years of hearing Elvis' Christmas album it is just nor Christmas to me without hearing Elvis singing "Silver Bells" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas"

I thought I'd make a little photo tour for my readers who have never been to Memphis. Graceland really is lovely this time of year.

I want this awesome Elvis Charm Bracelet!

Christmas at Graceland in Memphis, TN:

Experience the magic of the King's beloved estate during the holidays with this annual event at Graceland. This exciting lights and decorations display features the exact holiday decor Elvis himself presented each year, including a life-size Nativity scene, lighted trees, large Santa, sleigh and reindeer and more! The King loved the holidays, and to date, his original decorations are used to adorn Graceland.

Elvis paid attention to small details - including switching the blue draperies in the front of the house to red for the holidays - and the keepers of Graceland continue all of those traditions today! Experience Christmas at Graceland exactly as the King did! Elvis fans flock to Christmas at Graceland each year.

Of course Elvis singing... my favorite song...

Size? x Adidas Birmingham City Series trainers and tracktop instore tomorrow

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 09:33 AM PST

Brum1

I know we've just mentioned a pair of trainers, but we then realised that we didn't mention the limited edition Size? x Adidas Birmingham City Series trainers and tracktop, which go on sale tomorrow, 18th December 2010, if you fancy an early start on a cold morning.

You'll need that early start too, as this 6th (and last) limited edition City Series collaboration is limited to just 500 pairs in the stores, with that matching track jacket also available, limited to just 300 - all numbered of course.

Brum2

Inspired by the city and the well-known chocolate maker from those parts it would seem, the Birmingham trainers offer up a purple, white and gold colourway that represents Cadbury's, the upper being purple suede, with white detailing, with a chocolate brown gum sole and the Cadbury logo-inspired gold foil 'Birmingham' finishing things off.

Like we said, get up early if you want a pair as they're unlikely to make it online. The lion's share of the stock almost certainly will be in the Midlands.

1960s Puma Roma trainers return in white and blue

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 08:21 AM PST

Roma

We tend to feature a lot of Adidas (for good reason), but it's not got sole rights to cool reissues. Indeed, the Puma Roma trainers are one of my all-time favourites and are available once more on pre-order in a white and blue colourway.

Aa you probably know, this low cut shoe was first produced back in 1968, created to honour the Italian team and its success in the European Championship, also held in Italy that year. This is a fairly faithful reissue to that original, with a slim profile, premium leather upper, contrast suede stripe and a gum sole.

A limited release, you can pre-order now at a price of £65.

eBay watch: One-off Mini Roadster

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 08:03 AM PST

Mini

Yes, we know (in the UK at least) that we have plunging temperatures and the threat of severe snow for the next week. But we still couldn't resist featuring this summer-friendly Mini Roadster.

It's said to be a one-off, starting life as a Mini Saloon before being converted to a Roadster, initially to promote the seller's business. Lots of money spent on it (see the listing for the exhaustive list), with that respray in metallic green completed just eight weeks ago.

The problem obviously is being able to find garage space for it when the weather's not great. If you've got that, it's on a Buy It Now for £1,799 or 'best offer'. I suspect it would command a much higher price if the sun was shining.

My Favourite Things limited edition print by Swifty

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 07:47 AM PST

Fave

A nice bit of modern-day pop art by Swifty, this particular print going by the name of My Favourite Things.

It doesn't say specifically, but we can second guess that these are indeed a selection of the artist's favourite things from his childhood, brought together in a collage-style print on 190gsm archival paper, sized at 300 x 420mm (perfect for an Ikea Ribba frame apparently).

A limited edition of 20, all signed and numbered by the artist, you can pick one up for £35.

Andrea Garland cosmetics

Andrea garland
Those who appreciate a spot of vintage glamour (and who doesn't?) should check out the range of cosmetics and beauty products produced by Andrea Garland.

It's a hand-made range inspired by the double whammy of all things natural and all things vintage. She produces a range of face and body balms and sells them in antique tins, pill boxes, compacts and other original bits of packing. There's a fascinating range available, such as the 1930s compact pictured with is filled with the rosy balm for use on the face. Even better, Andrea offers the service of re-filling the original container for a fraction of whatever you paid the first time round.

Prices vary depending on products and packaging but, to give you an idea, the compact pictured costs £32.

Lisa Stickley 50s-style hook rail

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 05:05 AM PST

HookrailMore Lisa Stickley, as she continues to spread her style across the British high street. This time it's some products produced for Heal's, and specifically this 50s-style hook rail

It's a very simple design: bright, raspberry-coloured wooden rail, given a 1950s update through the Eames' Hang-It-All-style knobs. There's something of the old-fashioned school changing room about it too - which may or not be a good thing!

The rail costs £32 and is also available as single hook for £12.

Joy Division Postcard Box Set by Kevin Cummins.

Joy_Division_Box_new_600_large
We have previously mentioned Kevin Cummins' postcards celebrating the music of Manchester and Liverpool, but even more of a treat is his Joy Division Postcard Box Set.

Cummins is viewed by many as the definitive chronicler of the Manchester music scene, beginning his career at around the time that Joy Division started. This special edition box set features 20 of his iconic Joy Division images, reproduced as postcards and presented in hand finished box. Appropriately, the set was made in Manchester.

Buy it online from Polite Shop, priced £25.

Golden Girls Tote Bag

Il_570xN_168528362
Etsy has thrown up some wonderful items, but seller HutchMe has some of the oddest, as her obsession with 1980s pop culture inspires many of her products, such as this Golden Girls Tote Bag.

The natural colour bag features a graphic print of the four ladies on the front, in a choice of either purple, turquoise blue, gold or pink. Not the most credible reference, admittedly, but it made me smile and I'd be more likely to buy this than one of her Phil Collins cushions! The bags cost $18 (a bit over £11) from Etsy.

Serralunga Barceloneta Chair - classic Barcelona Chair gets an update

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 02:11 AM PST

Barc1

Yes, at first glance it does indeed look like the classic Barcelona Chair by Mies van der Rohe. But it's actually a new design, the Serralunga Barceloneta Chair.

Think of it as a Barcelona for the modern era, with designer Raffaella Mangiarotti using a mix of polyurethane and aluminium to produce a chair both indoor or outdoor use, slimming down the design so it's abel to stack up too - see over the page for an idea of how that works. He even keeps that 'quilted' leather look for the seating by using a sophisticated 'rotating moulding system' that's apparently no easy thing to do.

Plenty of colours available, all priced around £654.
