Star Wars animated Boba Fett seen at last!

Before George Lucas had complete control over the Star Wars franchise, an indelible mark was made on his legacy by the Star Wars Holiday Special. This 197o8 extravaganza featured Art Carney, musical numbers by Jefferson Starship and Bea Arthur performing a cabaret number in the Tatooine cantina. Throughout it all, Wookies roar without any subtitles for what feels like hours.

The entire special is wrapped around Chewbacca getting home in time for 'Life Day,' a kind of Wookie holiday centered on a painfully long musical number by Princess Leia. The weirdest part isn't the goofy wookies or the topical guest-stars, though. No, the weirdest part is the unusually intense emotion with which Harrison Ford delivers his lines as Han Solo. Ordinarily, Ford is distant and restrained... but in the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special he is putting in an award-worthy performance.

It's torture.

However there is one bright shining moment of the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, the first appearance of Boba Fett in the form of a short animated feature. Heavily influenced by Heavy Metal, the 'toon is very hip for its time. Sadly, Lucas is so outraged and embarrassed by the special that he has denied it ever existed... until now.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that a special poster was given away to Best Buy customers showing Fett on a creature not unlike the massive one he used to get around in the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. Theories proved correct and with the release of all six movies on Blu-ray, fans can now watch the Fett cartoon in its entirety.

Here's how to find it.

The segment is located on the second bonus disc, containing the archives for Episodes IV through VI. To find it from the main menu, click on Episode V, then go to the "Pursued by the Imperial Fleet" section. From there, go into "The Collection" and select the "Boba Fett Prototype Costume." You'll see a menu on the right side of the screen with the option "First Look." When you choose that option, you'll get a brief introduction and background on the special before it starts playing. Then just sit back and enjoy the weirdness. (Via IGN)

The Boba Fett cartoon is seriously the only part worth watching from the entire 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. I imagine that it has been touched up as the only version fans could watch up until now is scratchy and difficult to get through (see below):

eBay watch: Vintage Citroen DS 21 in need on renovation

Cit1

You don't need me to tell you that the weather is getting progressively worse. If you want something to keep you amused over the winter months, how about doing up a classic car? This Citroen DS 21 could be the perfect project.

Sadly, the seller doesn't give a lot away, perhaps because it was a 'barn find' with no real history. So we'll give you what we know generally. The DS 21 was introduced in 1965, originally a 2175cc model, getting some electronic fuel injection for 1970. Not sure about the year, you might want to check if there's any evidence of the year from the seller.

Pictures are only of the exterior, which don't look too bad considering it's been hanging around for years. The interior is described as 'good' apart from the 'rear armrest'.

So work needed, but with a current price of £100, you can afford to spend a few quid on it. After all, we've featured models on here in the past for around £11,000. These are very collectible cars in the right condition.

Newgate Footed Retro Alarm Clock

Newgate

A clock that seems to straggle two eras, but to good effect - the Newgate Footed Retro Alarm Clock.

That tulip-style base and rounded shape has a hint of the late '60s or early-to-mid 1970s, but the face has the look of a slightly earlier time.

Standing at 17.5cm tall, you can grab one online for £17.50.

Waddletot Dolls - hipster dolls made of vintage fabrics

Doll

We absolutely love these Waddletot Dolls - the only problem is that we can't decide which one of the many hipster dolls to buy.

Sukie is pictured above, just one of the large-size dolls (all around 23 inches tall), made, like her pals, out of re-purposed vintage fabrics to create retro outfits for the dolls, which could have come kicking and screaming out of the 1960s.

In fact, check them all out at the website, it's well worth your time. Downside? Perhaps the price, but for good reason. These Emma Waddleton-designed dolls are all made to order and all have their own distinctive stitched-in label, swing ticket and and ID card signed by the designer. They're also wrapped in tissue paper, bound with a bespoke satin label and sent in a presentation box. A collector's piece on short.

For all of that and your doll, the price is £145.

Atomique print by Double Merrick

Atomique

Apparently inspired by 'an era when science was going to solve all of our problems' comes this Atomique print by Double Merrick, the first in a new Good Science series by the artist.

The artist also points out that the print is rooted in an age when 'science looked great' - atomic models, lab coats, complex chalkboard diagrams, yo7u know the kind of thing.

Each print is A3 in size and made using archival inks on 220gsm watercolour paper, then packaged in a robust cardboard tube so it reaches you in tip-top condition. If you fancy it on your wall of your lab or living room, the print sells for 50 euros plus P&P.

1970s Pandul Bubi lamp reissued by Henning Koppel

Pandul

A Scandinavian classic from the 1970s has been reissued with a slightly different finish - the Pandul Bubi lamp reissued by Henning Koppel.

The original Scandinavian edition of this, dating back to 1972, was made in brass. That's not exactly hip in 2011, so the brass has been replaced with a more friendly handmade chrome finish, matched with an opal impact-resistant high-gloss acrylic shade. The cord is in a choice of black or white.

Grab one online, the price is £208.

Heavenly Canvas vintage-style cushions

Tetley

We see a lot lot of cushions and indeed, we've featured a good few too. But some of the Heavenly Canvas vintage-style cushions are worthy of your attention for two reasons. They're slightly quirkier than most and they're really good value too.

Not all of them, but browse through the range and you can find some real gems. The one above for example, is one of a couple featuring those icons of British tea drinking, the Tetley tea folk.

This one is a 16 x 16-inch cover with a plain white 'envelope-style' back for slipping in your insert (which isn't included). Homemade, as you might have guessed and washable too. It retails for just £8.99. See the seller's shop for all the other designs too.
